W	Wolter Deelman on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ De Vijftig Bunder ligt op de overgang tussen de Hondsrug en het beekdal van de Drentse Aa. Het is een eeuwenoud gebied met een rijke historie vlakbij Zuidlaren. Zo’n 2500 jaar geleden werd het bos gekapt, dat hier toen stond. De grond werd als landbouwgrond gebruikt, maar zó intensief dat er na een tijd niets anders dan heide groeide. De grond was uitgeput. Vanaf 1850 werd de heide ontgonnen. Er werden bomen geplant -eiken en grove dennen- en een deel van de heide werd in grasland omgezet. De Vijftig Bunder werd niet grootschalig bebost; dit heidelandschap is dus eeuwenoud. Ook cultuurhistorisch is De Vijftig Bunder interessant, er zijn twee grafheuvels van rond 1500 voor Christus (Neolithicum en/of Bronstijd) en karrensporen uit de Middeleeuwen te vinden. It is an ancient area with a rich history near Zuidlaren. About 2500 years ago, the forest that stood here at the time was cut down. The land was used as agricultural land, but so intensively that after a while nothing but heather grew. The ground was exhausted. From 1850 the heather was cultivated. Trees were planted - oaks and scots pines - and part of the heathland was converted into grassland. The Fifty Acre was not forested on a large scale; this heather landscape is therefore centuries old. The Fifty Bunder is also interesting from a cultural-historical perspective, there are two burial mounds from around 1500 BC (Neolithic and / or Bronze Age) and cart tracks from the Middle Ages. B	Bert Huizing on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Jammer, was 15 jaar geleden nog een mooi heideveld omsloten door bos en een coulissenlandschap. Nu is de beheerder druk bezig om de bovengrond te verschralen en het landschap opener te maken. Het is er niet mooier op geworden. A pity, 15 years ago there was a beautiful heathland surrounded by woods and a bocage landscape. Now the manager is busy to shrink the topsoil and make the landscape more open. It hasn't gotten any better.

F	Frits Knars on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Ik kom al sinds de jaren '80 in de Vijftig Bunder en het is een prachtig en heel stil natuurgebied waar je heerlijk kunt wandelen. Het enige minpuntje is dat een vrij klein oppervlak beslaat en je er dus niet úren kunt ronddwalen. Vlakbij ligt het romantische plaatsje Zuidlaren waar je na de wandeling bij de horeca de verbrande caloriën weer kunt aanvullen. I have been coming to the Fifty Bunder since the 1980s and it is a beautiful and very quiet nature reserve where you can walk. The only downside is that it covers a fairly small surface and you cannot wander around for hours. Close by is the romantic town of Zuidlaren where you can replenish the burnt calories after the walk at the catering industry.
