Barangay – Your tropical hide-away - Barangay.nl

The owners, Wimmo and Godwin ( or God as he is called by his friends) are two easy-going guys, being friends since 1996. In August 1999 their biggest dream came true and opened their own guest house, Barangay Bed and Breakfast.

Wimmo, the Dutch look-a-like of Bruce Willis was born in a small city near Rotterdam. He was trained as a classical ballet dancer in The Hague and from 1980 till 1987, he danced for Het Internationale Dans Theather in Amsterdam. After 3 years in the advertising world, he worked for a canal boat company and managed it for 10 years. Aside from the Barangay, Wimmo worked part-time as host/guide on canal boats trips for the same company. He is the in-house designer and interior decorater.  In 2005 Wimmo opened his 2 rooms in the apartment upstairs. In 2010 he has rediscovered his passion for painting.

Before cold Netherlands 1996, Godwin lived a long and happy live in tropical paradise, The  Philippines. There  he was a college instructor in economics and political science, a research writer both for MBC business magazine and Lady Senator Rasul. Happier times in Amsterdam, Godwin did all kind of ‘odd jobs’ instead of finishing his MBA studies. He also  worked for a canal boat company, waited for Hard Rock CafΓ©, helped Mader run “Sunhead of 1617 Guest House” and seriously, was a data typist. A licensed tennis instructor since 2005, Godwin is a fanatic tennis player and a regular fixture in de GLTA European circuit.

Eduardo was born in Brazil where he worked for a bank until 1992. That same year he moved to Bolzano in North Italy.

After working in a popular club , he opened his own bar “Casa Nova” in 1995.

Two years later he came to Amsterdam and worked together with Godwin in Hard Rock cafe Amsterdam.

Besides running the B&B he also works part time time in a Italian restaurant. Eduardo speaks 5 languages and loves to cook.

Very convenient position, close to the central station and same (short) distance from any Amsterdam attraction, yet silent. Clean, fantastic breakfast and - most importantly - great hospitality by the crew. Watch out: the internal stairs, quite steep, could be a challenge if your agility is quite limited. If you're old fashioned mindset towards gay couples, you may want to search elsewhere.

The best things about this b&b are: Super location. Really friendly hosts. Spotlessly clean rooms with private bathrooms. Unique deco - tropical touch here and there to compliment the warmth of this accommodation. Home from home away feeling. Cant recommend enough. See for yourself.

Every need anticipated. Kind, warm owners. Peaceful and beautiful rooms, exquisite bathroom. This is a place to rest before your next walk. You cannot have a better experience than staying in this unique place. Simple walk from train. Wimmo, thank you, once again for your care.

Our double room was located in the basement of the property I wasn't aware of this but maybe missed it reading other reviews, though our room did share a patio area. On the downside there was a power shortage on our first day staff did fix within an hour of being notified as they do not reside within the property. Rooms clean and tidy with enough space, table as breakfast is served in room only. Bathroom looked new with some neat finishes. Free WiFi Overall location ideal if you want central areas and the station nearby. Really friendly staff.

I actually stayed here a year ago and forgot to write a review when I left and generally I don’t write reviews at all, but I remember this place exactly, professional host with the best guiding tips, made us feel very welcome and cooks the most delicious well served breakfast , hands down this BnB will offer the best hospitality you can imagine, the rooms are all beautifully theme designed with privet bathrooms, lovely kitchen with sitting area and background music. I would definitely recommend staying here just for the experience

Stayed for 3 nights and it was one of the best trip I've ever had thanks to our hosts, were very warm but also professional at the same time. Made us feel super comfortable, rooms have beautiful furniture and decorations. Breakfasts are tasty, varied and always served on time. The place and neighborhood are overall really cozy, close to train station (max. 15min) and the center ; also very close to the tram so you can visit other places like the Museumplein very easily.

It was just another place to sleep in for three nights . Nothing special !! It was in a almost perfect neighborhood close to all the restaurants for me . And the staff was their ordinary abrupt selves that really dont seem to care about going that extra distance to really help . You see i am a partially disabled Veteran from the States . I did grow up in Norway as a small boy . Thats why i got to know Holland the way i did over the years . I wont stay here again . Sorry. !!
