It's not what I expected, but this is my fault. Some of the "Illusions" are ok. A few didn't work for me. It's not a place where you can see Illusions but you can take pictures of your group in front of interesting painted walls. Was ok but too expensive. Maybe we were just not the target group.

This was one of the places we had down to visit whilst in amsterdam and were really looking forward to it. On arrival we found the place was closed altough it stated it was open online. We spoke to someone from a shop next door who informed us that it had closed and wouldnt be re opening. Was very disappointing, and would be very usefull if they changed their opening times to closed or atleast leave something on their web page to suggest this. As we wasted time finding this place and was then left with out anything to do.

Nice place to take 3D pictures. Unique creative space "Museum of Amsterdam Illusions" in the heart of Amsterdam. Optical Illusions of the museum will impress both children and adults. You will discover the world of incredible 3D installations. They are devoted to the cultural Dutch traditions interpreted by contemporary artists. You will learn interesting facts about the Dutch culture, history and mentality.

Fun! You’ll spend about 30mins - 1 hour here, but it is realy fun. Also nice to do with kids! I would recommend to take the VIP arrangement. It is some euros more per person, but they send you all the pictures afterwards and they know how to take the best ones...

Before visiting the Museum of Illusions we had no idea what to expect, but it was one of the few attractions open in Amsterdam on New Year's Day so thought it would be a fun way to kill a few hours. It wasn't immediately clear what we were supposed to do when we first entered the museum - there are a lot of paintings on the wall with strange perspectives, but it was hard to tell exactly what the illusions were. Eventually a staff member took pity on us and showed us the small camera icons on the floor, which show where you are meant to stand while taking a picture of the illusion. Another thing that wasn't totally clear is that most of the illusions need a person in the photo, for instance a picture of a bubble which makes it seem as if a person sitting on the floor is inside the bubble. To be fair there are small example photos on the walls next to many of the illusions, but the fact that a lot of these were missing was quite disappointing. It would have been helpful for the greeter to explain to us how the illusions worked when we paid, as we were not the only group to have trouble understanding how it worked. The way that the illusions are set up means that photographers will often get in each other's way when taking photos of an illusion. We were lucky that when we went the museum wasn't very busy, but we can imagine that if there are even 6 or 7 groups this would cause a lot of frustration. Having said that, the artwork itself was impressive and it's clear that the artists involved are very talented. In all we spent around 30-45 minutes in the museum, which we don't think warrants the €12 price tag (maybe €5-6 would be more suitable). However, it was a nice way to spend a little of our New Year's Day and the idea is certainly an original and fun one, so we will give it 3 stars. If you are going to visit, we recommend you go in at least a group of 3 as some illusions need 2 people in the photo.
