About Amsterdam University College

On Friday 25 September 2020 we shared AUC’s Framework and Action Plan for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion with the AUC community. This Framework and Action Plan outlines the importance of diversity at AUC and the targeted measures we are taking to make AUC an inclusive community. It is the result of work conducted following the 11 June commitments made by AUC’s Management. On that day, AUC’s Management acknowledged the prevalence of institutional racism in our society and committed to a new approach.

The Framework and Action Plan combine to provide a living document, an invitation to the community to remain involved, and will evolve and adapt over time in response to our continuing conversations and reflections. At the same time, the plan also serves as a tool for increased transparency and accountability for the commitments we have made, by introducing concrete milestones, actions and a regular reporting mechanism.

Terrible terrible administration that does not want to help students at all. The method of choosing classes is outdated and backwards and the class selection is small.

Interesting take on higher education, with highly motivated students that are personally catered for by many lecturers including a tutor. Higher fees means a narrower category of students, with diversity being ensured by scholarships. The teaching staff is assisted by a large support group that tends to alleviate most administrative issues. There is a cafe/restaurant on site.

If you’re looking for an overall high standard of professors, this is a great school to attend. Most of the teachers are highly passionate about what they’re teaching and the intimate class sizes promote a strong and discussion based learning space. Communication with administrative faculty is however a complete nightmare. They lack giving response and action to any complaints, regardless of their urgency, and they would rather have you solve the problem yourself than doing their job and try to help you the best they can. They don’t deliver response by their own set deadlines and overall don’t seem to care about their students. They have a lot to learn from North American universities when it comes to communicating properly with both prospective and arguably more importantly current students. Considering we pay double the tuition in comparison to other Dutch universities you would expect a higher level of concern and care about any complaints that can and should be easily avoided. While the university promotes excellence, their overall care for their students shows they are far from it.

Worst admission procedure I have ever been through. I applied in January 2021 and only got a response six months later. In the meantime, the school did not sufficiently inform me and other applicants on the status of our application. In the end, I only received the final decision on my application one week before the start of the semester. Unfortunately, I was not the only applicant treated in this unacceptable fashion. Another issue me and other applicants faced was an unwillingness to answer and address basic questions send via email. In some cases my emails were even completely ignored. And if you are lucky and finally receive an answer the original question was often not properly answer. For example, I asked the AUC admissions office about the math requirements for German students whether they mean an average of 11 points in all semesters + the AbiturprΓΌfung or if they mean the grade in the AbiturprΓΌfung. I am still waiting for an answer to this day. To me it seemed that the whole admission procedure leaked structure and clear guidelines. For instance, at what point applicants can assume to get a response on their application. Moving from one country to the other in the span of two is just not possible! Please note that this is not a review of the overall experience at AUC but just a review of the application procedure from my perspective and from what I have heard from multiple other applicants.
