Several years ago I rated An Chi as the best massage lounge in Amsterdam! After living abroad for some time, I walked in today to buy a gift card for my friend's birthday. Its shocking how things have changed for the worse in just a few years! I remember An Chi as a place of tranquility, a hidden gem where one comes to calm down and escape the bustling city. From the moment you opened the door, a sense of calmness went through you. The relaxing scent, the calm sounds on the background, the polite employee who welcomed you with a calm voice. And of course, the amazing massages that made me a returning client! The only thing that reminded me of the An Chi I was familiar with today, was a sign on the wall asking to speak softly. A sign that, as I would soon discover, was completely ignored by An Chi's own employees ... Behind the desk where two employees, a Dutch-speaking one and her dark-haired English-speaking colleague. I was surprised how loudly they were counting cash from the previous client and all the hastily and chaotic shifting with storage boxes and worn-out notes. Definitely not the relaxing atmosphere I remember, but I did not pay much attention to it at first. The Dutch-speaking employee asked me (in Dutch) what I wanted, to which I answered (also in Dutch): to buy a gift certificate. The English-speaking colleague started asking me in English: what, what are you saying? This felt strange and even rude, but the Dutch employee explained to her colleague that I wanted to buy a gift card. She asked me for what amount, but before I was able to answer: €55 (which I remember is enough for an Energy Flow treatment of 45min), the English-speaking employee said: you can check the menu's near the door! I took a menu from the shelf next to the door and asked whether it could be included with the gift card. From what I remember, the gift-card was always carefully packed in a cotton bag and the menu was enclosed to inform its future owner which treatments one could choose from. This always looked very authentic! It struck me again that the two employees were in full chaos searching for envelopes and gift cards, shuffling with storages boxes and all kind of things on a messy counter. The Dutch-speaking employee informed me that there were no cotton bangs nor large envelopes left anymore. She gave me the smaller enveloppe to exhibit. Before I could take a closer look at it, all of a sudden, it was pulled out of my hands by her English-speaking colleague. Shouting: I will do that for you! While she was already writing something on the gift card. I was surprised and told the English-speaking employee that I would like to examine the enveloppe, if that was okay? To which she gave it back to me and pushed the storage boxes, the gifted card and the menu to her colleague saying: then you do it! At this moment I started to doubt whether I still wanted to buy a gift card, it seemed to me that things have changed and not for the better. Hopefully the massages were still great. Hence I asked whether one of the masseurs I remember well from several years ago was still working at An Chi. To which the Dutch employee answered completely uninterested: never heard of him ... This was the moment I decided that it's probably better to go and look for another birthday gift for my friend. Surprising how a hidden gem of calmness and mindfulness can change in a place of rudeness and stress in just a few years. This is definitely not the An Chi I rated as the best massage lounge in Amsterdam!

This place is fantastic, I’ve been twice now and I’m so impressed by the knowledge and quality of service I receive. Would highly recommend if you’re feeling a bit injured and generally tight.

Great place and reasonably priced. I had different masseuse each time for many years and they are all fantastic. In particular, I found Andrea to be a great and very professional. He is particularly knowledgeable if you have chronic pains.

The massage was excellent. The masseuse Jethro knew his craft. I felt very relaxed, will be back again.

Going to an Chi for massage is a unique experience in every sense of the word. By far the best massage salon in Amsterdam, an Chi is welcoming from the first moment you enter the place. Earthy colors, low light, low voices and amazing relaxing music prepare you for the massage itself. All professionals are great, i would strongly recommend Andrea and as of today also Julie because of the deep knowledge of human body, professionalism, determination and care for you, as a client but also as a person seeking therapy. I am extremely satisfied, thank you all working at an Chi for making this experience possible.
