staat bekend als een huiselijk, warm en gezellig café met vriendelijk personeel. Het grote verwarmde terras aan de Nieuwmarkt ligt van ‘s ochtends tien tot ‘s avonds laat in de zon. Fonteyn is een cafe met een grote variëteit aan dranken waaronder biologische sappen, wijnen en verschillende soorten bier van de tap.
De menukaart biedt allerlei lekkers als lunch, borrelhap of snack, maar echte maaltijden worden niet geserveerd. Van Rome tot Berlijn: op ieder plein hoort een fontein. Ook in Amsterdam.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Must admit I just rediscovered the place after having some unfriendly experience couple of years ago. There is a chill local vibe in this bruin café despite the touristic location. Staff very very friendly. They do it simple and relaxed for customers. For example I was surprised it is possible to bring his take away from next door and eat it at the table (ask waiters before) which is very unusual here. Bitterballen and other hapjes looked good too.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We were wondering around, hungry and late to lunch, trying to find a place that didn’t look like a tourist trap. The menu outside was only in Dutch so that looked like a good spot. We took a cute small table in the corner, easy outlet access to recharge. The waiter greeted us immediately in Dutch then switched to English when I spoke, also nice, and didn’t judge me when I asked for tap water instead of bottled. The sandwich (toasted beef with truffle mayo) was excellent. Bread was warm and the right amount of crunch. Afterwards we stayed for another beer and a game of chess from their game cabinet (tucked away classily in a corner). I’d highly recommend
