About Cinema of the Dam'd
Founded in 2014, Cinema of the Dam’d is a non-profit, volunteer run foundation that curates and presents unconventional film programs in Amsterdam. In 2017, we joined the collective at the OT301 cultural centre, located in the former Dutch film academy and renovated its historic screening room.
Our cinema presents a mixture of repertory programming and new films from around the world. We champion unusual, distinctive, and adventurous work, especially independent and undistributed films overlooked by commercial cinemas and established filmhouses. We also seek to highlight the work of film artists—women, people of color, and non-“Western” directors—often excluded from classical and contemporary canons.
We reject a film culture which divides movies into “high” and “low” art. We believe that cinema is one of the few remaining accessible forms of popular culture. Therefore, we seek to foster a culture of adventurous and omnivorous moviegoing, with low ticket prices and playful programs. Because our community is international, all of our films are either in English or screened with English subtitles.
We are the only cinema in Amsterdam that serves fresh popcorn.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Really awesome not for profit cinema with unusual screenings and awesome community feeling. Super comfy sofas and bean bags in the front so get there quickly! The manager and team are all very lovely and you can really see their love and passion for good movie and experiences. They also run some great festivals around themes, and they really dig up some long forgotten, underrated and other movies that flew under the radar. They also have Friday night karaoke nights and a lovey bar with popcorn.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A cool spot turned into a small independent cinema. This is not your normal theater or karaoke spot. It’s like a whole-in-the-wall for movie lovers and chill people.
It’s a room inside a larger building that has a bar and a club inside as well, etc. They show cartoons on Saturday mornings and then do Karaoke on Saturday nights. You can see old classics, the Rocky Horror Show, double features, etc here. Check their website as it changes up often. For Halloween they did a horror double feature (one of which was Night of the Living Dead). They also have trivia nights!
How to find it: You enter from the sidewalk on Overtoom, then through a short walkway/ally to the back building and then go up two flights of stairs.
