★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Plus: friendly staff, atmosphere is nice, and rooms look good. Very clean also.
The bad: the beds. They are to small for modern standards (80 cm wide matras) the pillows have no volume, and the matresses shift around on the bed when you move. Thought it shouldnt be a problem, but i only managed to get some sleep after i put a matras on the ground, and rolled up the second blanket as a pillow...
Cant tell if this is for all rooms, or just the one i had.
As i came to this hotel to get some sleep, and get going again, the biggest part of my stay was bad.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautifully renovated building. Hotel is run by very friendly, hospitable and authentic people. Dokkum is small but lively town and provides a great base for day trips. Well situated relative to the ferries to the Wadden Islands.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We stayed in de Abdij as part of our mini-holiday to see this part of The Netherlands. It is a very nice new luxury hotel with a character. The rooms are comfortable and are furnished with great attention to detail and quality (you can see materials used are not cheap). The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating (I would say well above the average for this part of the world) and would go out of their way to provide solutions and think along. The location is also great (middle of town on the square with the frozen fountain) and the wifi is strong. There were toys in the room for the kids and their towels were folded as an elephant (see picture). I would certainly recommend this hotel.
