About De Ontdekfabriek
This iconic abandoned Philips factory now is a playground where children and their parents experience adventures with films (on request with English subtitling) and inspiring interactive exhibits. In several workshops they can design and build (also 3D print!) their own inventions or create movies themselves. A unique place (with a nice cafetaria) for creative families and an inspiring location for business events as well!

Additional info about the Discovery Factory
In a former Philips factory in Eindhoven children are playfully enthused for science and technology and its infinite possibilities. They discover how much fun it is finding out how things work and how to create. The initiative has been founded in 2009 and receives about 30,000 visitors annually. The organization also offers educational programs for schools. The responsible foundation is supported by government and industry who realize how important it is that children, from an early age, discover their creative and technical talents.

Lots of cool machines to play with, like a vacuum machine to create boats, a tool part to dismantle things, meccano tables... for the toddlers there was a giant lego-toy area. For parents a really nice cafe. I would have liked if there had been more science related toys in the shop

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ De Ontdekfabriek, The Discovery Factory, located in the office district of Strijp S, is housed in a historic building that is said to have been the Phillips factory.
We regularly visit this place because our two elementary school-aged boys love everything here. Incidentally their school gives free access to this place online. Beyond that you have to book a place and buy tickets through their website.
The activities started with watching films about science in the cinema room, followed by direct experiments in their exploration laboratory. Using recycled materials to make a variety of creations. Play on the rides they provide. It's really fun for the kids.
The begeleiders on duty are very friendly and eager to help the children make their creations. High appreciation for Begeleider Diederik who several times patiently accompanied our children to play and answered their questions.
While waiting for the kids to finish their science projects, we can leave them and come back at the appointed time, or just wait at their cafe. The coffee is really good, don't forget to try it.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I came with my kids and they're too young to be by themselves so I had to stay with them, but still I had to pay full price even if I was not participating on any activities! The price should be by the hour as well. A robbery and un unfair place basically!
