Hare Majesteit koningin Beatrix in 1999 het predicaat hofleverancier aan Van der Pigge heeft toegekend. Dit was ter gelegenheid van het 150-jarige bestaan van onze winkel.
En wist je dat het winkelpand van Van der Pigge aan 3 kanten wordt ingesloten door de vestiging van V&D. Bij de bouw van het warenhuis in 1929 weigerde Van der Pigge zijn pand te verkopen, waardoor Vroom & Dreesman genoodzaakt was haar bouwplannen aan te passen.
Hoe het V&D vergaan is hoeven we niet toe te lichten…

If you don't need the cure- come for the vibe.
So authentic the aroma of the place even seeps into the licorice ;)

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ One of the interesting historical buildings to stop by while sightseeing around Haarlem is the A.J. van der Pigge, a delightful old pharmacy building that upon entering looks much like it probably did during the mid 19th century when the Antonie Johannes van der Pigge started his original business here.
Today you find a working pharmacy. There is limited room within but if you are patient and try not to disturb daily business being conducted, you can duck in for a couple minutes to look around and admire the setup at A.J. van der Pigge pharmacy.
Do have a look at some of the quirky items within the shop including the large hanging snake and the large scale yawning gapers, large wooden heads with their mouths wide open, as if about to be administered a large dose of bad tasting medicine.
A.J. van der Pigge is located at Gierstraat 3 and easy to locate. Just look for the large wooden gaper hanging above the entrance to the small shop. Opening hours are 9.30am to 6pm (Mon to Fri), 9.30am to 5.30pm (Sat). The shop is closed on Sundays.
Have a quick stop and look around if you enjoy historic buildings especially those which have managed to survive the test of time and continue to conduct their trade to this day.
