De eeuwenoude historische vlag van Weesp dreigde te verdwijnen tijdens het bewind van burgemeester Hofkamp. Uiteindelijk is het ontwerp van Frank van der Horst met de samensmelting van de letters WS met een "V-double", zoals deze bijvoorbeeld ook in oude teksten voor het Wilhelmus is gebruikt ingediend door het Comité tot Behoud van de Weesper vlag. Dit voorstel met dit ontwerp is uiteindelijk door de gemeenteraad aangenomen als de vlag van Weesp.
