Het prachtige gebouw is een mix tussen historische rijksmonumenten en nieuwbouw. Hier vind je het bestuur van de stad en alle gemeentelijke diensten voor inwoners en bedrijven. Dat het stadhuis opvalt dat zal niemand ontkennen. Sommigen zullen zeggen dat het een architectonisch hoogstandje is en andere moeten wennen aan de nieuwbouw tussen alle historische rijksmonumenten. Het stadhuis is in totaal 24.000 m2 groot en biedt plek voor het stadsbestuur en alle gemeentelijke diensten. De zandstenen voorgevel van het oorspronkelijke Raadhuis, met het bordes en bovenin de wapens van de Keizerlijke Hanzestad Deventer en van het bisdom van Utrecht, is classicistisch en uit het einde van de 17de eeuw, ontworpen door Jacobus Roman. Het heeft een bijzonder interieur met stucwerk, schouwen, gildeborden, betimmeringen en een burgemeesterstoel. In de oude raadszaal hangt het schilderstuk van Gerard ter Borch II "De magistraat van Deventer" uit 1667. Het gebouw herbergt het bestuur van de gemeente Deventer met raadszaal en burgerzaal. Tevens is de officiële trouwzaal van de gemeente Deventer gevestigd in het Raadhuis. Het pand behoort tot de Top 100 der Nederlandse UNESCO-monumenten. Leuk weetje: De zijgevel van het vroegere Wanthuis in de Polstraat is uit 1662 en ontworpen door de befaamde Amsterdamse bouwmeester Philips Vingboons. Het Landshuis (links van het oorspronkelijke Raadhuis) bestond al vóór 1337. Na aankoop door de stad in 1364 deed het pand dienst als stadstaveerne. In 1632 werd de taveerne geheel verbouwd tot Landshuis. 'Land' is een oude benaming voor gewest; vandaar deze naam voor het pand. Er kwam een rijkelijk versierde bakstenen gevel in renaissancestijl voor het oude gebouw. In het Landshuis zijn diverse vergaderruimten gevestigd, welke worden gebruikt door ambtenaren van de gemeente Deventer.
