★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Voor 1600 werd de groeve reeds ontgonnen door blokbrekers. Tot 2010/2011 werd de groeve door de Stichting ir. D.C. van Schaïk beheerd, maar vanwege de inwerkingtreding van de nieuwe mijnbouwwet besloot Het Limburgs Landschap om het beheer van de groeve (en van de Koelebosgroeve) weer in eigen hand te nemen.
De middelgrote groeve heeft een afmeting van 60 bij 50 meter. Aan de westzijde bevindt zich de ingang en ongeveer 30 meter zuidoostelijk daarvan ligt een schacht.
Zowel de ingang van de groeve als de schacht zijn afgesloten op zo'n manier dat vleermuizen de groeves wel kunnen betreden.

 Before 1600 the quarry was already being excavated by block breakers. Until 2010/2011 the quarry was managed by the Stichting ir. D.C. van Schaïk, but due to the entry into force of the new mining law, Het Limburgs Landschap decided to take back the management of the quarry (and the Koelebosgroeve) itself.
The medium-sized quarry measures 60 by 50 meters. On the west side is the entrance and about 30 meters southeast of it is a shaft.
Both the entrance to the quarry and the shaft are closed off in such a way that bats can enter the quarries.
