★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Mooiste outcrop van Nederland. Echter zegt dat meer over Nederland dan de groeve. Maar zeker een aanrader als je in de buurt bent.
Most beautiful outcrop in the Netherlands. However, that says more about the Netherlands than the quarry. But definitely recommended if you're in the area.

Dit is gesteente van 300 tot 350 miljoen jaar oud, waarin fossiele planten en diertjes zijn aangetroffen die van ver vóór de eerste dinosauriers dateren. Ontdekt door de Amsterdamse geoloog Eli Heimans, die door zijn boek "In ons Krijtland" het toerisme naar Epen en het boven-Geuldal op gang bracht.
Only place in the Netherlands where rocks from the Carboniferous surface. This is rock from 300 to 350 million years old, in which fossil plants and animals dating from far before the first dinosaurs have been found. Discovered by the Amsterdam geologist Eli Heimans, who started tourism to Epen and the upper Geul valley through his book "In our Krijtland".

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Leuke korte wandeling gemaakt vanaf de camping Rozenhof langs de beek de "kleine Geul" naar de Heimansgroeve. Deze is zeker niet spectaculair te noemen maar de wandeling er naar toe is mooi en je loopt er tussen de koeien door. De terugweg ging langs de Wingbergerhoeven waar je fruit en ijs kan kopen. Het ijs was super lekker, zeker even stoppen hier als je er langs komt.
Nice short walk from the Rozenhof campsite along the brook "kleine Geul" to the Heimansgroeve. It is certainly not spectacular, but the walk to it is beautiful and you walk between the cows. The way back went past the Wingbergerhoeven where you can buy fruit and ice cream. The ice cream was super tasty, be sure to stop here if you pass by.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Bijzonder geologisch monument, omdat dit de enige plek in Nederland is, waar gesteente uit de tijd van het Carboon, aan de oppervlakte komt. Net as de Krijtrots van Heimans, is dit monument ook vernoemd naar Eli Heimans.
Tot voor enge tijd was de groeve te betreden, maar omdat die vernield werd doordat het door sommigen als klimparadijs gebruikt werd, is het gebied u afgesloten voor onbevoegden.
Special geological monument, because this is the only place in the Netherlands where rock from the Carboniferous period comes to the surface. Like the Chalk Rock of Heimans, this monument is also named after Eli Heimans.
Until recently, the quarry could be entered, but because it was destroyed because it was used by some as a climbing paradise, the area is closed to unauthorized persons.
