Toch is de buiten werking gestelde spoorlijn in het nieuwe wegdek gehandhaafd. Het gaat hier dan ook om de ‘IJzeren Rijn’. Het opbreken van een stukje spoorlijn zou een politieke rel met België kunnen ontketenen.
