About IZAKAYA

ABOUT IZAKAYA IBIZA

Those fascinated by innovative culinary concepts have a new place to get together at a fantastic location in the centre of Ibiza overlooking the Old Town and the Ibiza marina. IZAKAYA presents modern Japanese cuisine with South American influences – it’s an outstanding shared–dining concept that will suit the cosmopolitan nature of Ibiza. Behind this inspiring idea are renowned hospitality entrepreneurs Yossi Eliyahoo and Liran Wizman, owners and founders of Amsterdam–based ‘THE ENTOURAGE GROUP’ and the Group’s managing director, Stephanie Pearson. The Group has already celebrated multiple successes including Amsterdam restaurants MOMO, MR PORTER and THE DUCHESS, and international brand THE BUTCHER, with five locations in Amsterdam and Berlin following the recent opening on Kantstrasse. IZAKAYA Amsterdam opened in 2012 and has become a firm favourite of locals, celebrities and the international jet set crowd.

Yossi Eliyahoo of THE ENTOURAGE GROUP says: “IZAKAYA is a contemporary dining experience where extravagant Japanese cuisine meets Peruvian flavours. Authentic elements are given a contemporary twist when combined with creative techniques. This is not only presented in the menu but throughout the whole concept. It’s the essence of IZAKAYA; authentic yet never traditional. We are extremely proud to introduce the concept to Ibiza."

IZAKAYA innovation and experience

IZAKAYA goes Balearic and settles at the heart of Sir Joan Hotel. Baranowitz + Kronenberg take the initial urban DNA of IZAKAYA, which they first defined in Amsterdam and transcend it to the realm of a summer resort of laid–back sun–seeking elite, jet setters and smart party lovers. Perceived as an inside–out venue, Sir Joan’s outdoors and pool are part and parcel of the IZAKAYA experience. In IZAKAYA Ibiza people can while away a whole day, attracted by a sense of cosiness and an authentic familiarity which is never traditional.

Inspired by the maritime life of the Balearics, the IZAKAYA design resonates with yacht living where walnut wood planks, polished stainless steel details and socialising are fundamental.

A giant wine fridge made from steel becomes the main feature of the central bar, offering a vast international fine wine library as well as a unique selection of Japanese sake, Shōchū and whiskeys. An iconic 360 degrees’ island bar executed in black steel is embraced by an overwhelming wine library set in state of the art fridges of crystal glass and polished steel. IZAKAYA’s show kitchen stands out as a socialising venue where parties of up to 15 guests are able to share an inspiring culinary performance while seated along the polished steel countertop of the kitchen. Floating above it all is a stainless steel polished lamella ceiling that mimics water reflections, mirroring and amplifying the unfolding chronicles of IZAKAYA living.

Outdoor cabanas and dining around the pool takes IZAKAYA under the sun, for which a laid back spatial experience is supported by simple bespoke design gestures where after sunset sun loungers turn into cosy dining spaces.

With DJs setting the energetic vibe from sunset throughout dinner, IZAKAYA turns the place into a music and drinking scene every night.

IZAKAYA cuisine and drinks

Time–honoured techniques blend together with innovative signatures, with spectacular dishes as the result. Executive Chef Hariprasad Shetty composed a sophisticated menu of a variety of small, unconventional dishes and specialties of the robata grill, always daring the guest to try something new.

As in Amsterdam, the traditional robata grill is also at the heart of the restaurant in Ibiza, where guests will be able to watch the chef prepare their selected culinary sensation directly in front of them. Guests can also expect further highlights in the form of specialities from the Hibachi ‘fire bowl’ – a Japanese small hot plate – and of course, what would Japanese cuisine be without sushi and sashimi? Exotic spices play a particularly important role in Ibiza. Also featured is a sophisticated menu of Sakana, a variety of small dishes that are perfect for sharing. The unique culinary concept involves serving the different courses on small plates one after the other so that everyone gets a chance to try something they have never had before, and the discussion afterwards is part of the experience.

IZAKAYA is best translated as ‘pub’ – a place deeply rooted in Japanese culture. The word ‘sake’ can also be found in the name, so it is little surprise that in addition to the selected wines and first class cocktails, the island bar also offers rare high–end and high percentage rice wines as well as house–infused tonics made with traditional, house–made Shōchū as a base.

Oh my god. We really wanted to visit this restaurant after reading the recommandations. We decided to come at lunch hour hoping to get more space and time for this food experience. This turned out to be a great idea. Everything on the menu looked great, but luckily the on in their staff taking care of us, said he could make us a surprise menu with his own personal favorites. That was the best decision we ever made. Constantly new dishes showing up, with taste combinations we never had thought of. Highly recommended, but would probably recommend lunch hours as we did for a more personal experience, as the staff said it can be quite busy in the evening.

Exceptional! Every dish looked and tasted amazing. One of the best in Amsterdam, worth every penny.

Good food, but it is supposed to be good for this kind of money. Service is lacking sometimes, they're just not alert, seemingly busy with anything but the guests. Good music but pretty loud, what's the point of that in the afternoon? To be fancy? If I want loud music I'll go to a club to dance, this ain't no club, there's no dancefloor, I just don't get it... I go to a restaurant to enjoy the food and to conversate, not having to shout at my friends

Food was very nice, not cheap but it is hip and trendy, so it is as could be aspected. We had a full lunch with 6 courses and two bottles of wine, when we refilled our glasses with the bottle from our wine cooler, it ended up not being our bottle, it had been replaced with a bottle from a different table, an honest mistake, nevertheless, we immediately were asked to pay the two glasses, which we did, we didn't think this was appropriate we tried to reason with the manager without being understood, that was very disappointing. overall great experience, but with a twist at the end we did not appreciate.

Went today for anniversary and the experience was nice even thought I was disappointed because they spilled all over the table my cocktail ( a small glass for 16 euro ) and didn’t offered me to change it or refill it and I spend the whole evening with a sticky table without table cloth and the fact that they offered edamame to all the tables but ours. That was annoying, kind of ruined a bit the experience, food was good but not exceptional considering the price.

We got 7 course menu, which was a pretty good choice. Every dish was unique and delicious. I found the service fine and the waiters were friendly. My favorite course was the dessert, which was a chocolate mousse (maybe the best I've ever tried).

Vibe is good. Loud music so it’s more a place to get there and meet some new people but not really able to discuss much. The food is delicious. My favorites are the king crab miso , spinach salad with prawns and just discovered the cabbage OMG simple but good ! Sashimi is also good quality (better is as the prices are not cheap). But ! The fried rice cubes with tuna on the top is so sticky and fatty, my friends and I didn’t like it but May be for some people would be nice. I never order sushi rolls here because are not really special. Dessert was good and very refreshing. The bourbon sour I ordered was not really well prepared that’s why the stars. Thanks !

Excellent. Perfect for groups to share small tapas-sized bites amongst friends or colleagues, each portion a full delight of taste and Japanese-Chilean fusion. It’s super impressive what they put together, and definitely worth the money — reservations required, dress code needed .. but would go anytime again to be bathed in the various flavours their food delights come with. Service was excellent, explained each dish in detail and was helpful throughout.
