★ ★ ★ ★ ★ De oudste stadspoort van Kampen. De ommuring van Kampen telde ooit maar liefst 20 stadspoorten, de eerste daarvan is de Koornmarktspoort uit de 14e eeuw. Door de aanwezigheid van het veer over de IJssel ligt bij de poort het hart van de Kamper economie. In 1380 wordt er een tweede toren aan de poort toegevoegd en krijgt de poort zijn huidige uiterlijk. Verdedigingswerk, woonhuis, gevangenis en mini-kazerne, de functie van de Koornmarktspoort is zeer divers geweest. Na het afbreken van de verdedigingswerken in 1840 wordt de poort witgekalkt. Bij de restauratie van het metselwerk in 1985 wordt de witkalk verwijderd en wordt de poort weer in zijn oorspronkelijke staat teruggebracht: een robuust, middeleeuws bakstenen poortgebouw.
 Kampen's oldest city gate. The walls of Kampen once had no fewer than 20 city gates, the first of which is the Koornmarktspoort from the 14th century. Due to the presence of the ferry across the IJssel, the heart of the Kamper economy lies at the gate. In 1380 a second tower is added to the gate and the gate gets its current appearance. Defense work, house, prison and mini barracks, the function of the Koornmarktspoort has been very diverse. After the defenses were demolished in 1840, the gate was whitewashed. During the restoration of the masonry in 1985, the whitewash was removed and the gate was returned to its original state: a robust, medieval brick gatehouse.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Al honderden keren langs, en er onderdoor, de Koornmarktspoort in Kampen gelopen. Nooit is mij dit detail opgevallen. Als je goed kijkt lijkt het net of er een middeleeuwse smurf in de dakgoot staat. Geweldig.
In het verleden heb ik hier exposities bezocht en van een feestelijk diner genoten. Binnenkort is de oudste poort van Kampen de locatie van een Escaperoom. Die staat al op mijn lijstje om te doen!
I've walked past, and under, the Koornmarktspoort in Kampen hundreds of times. I never noticed this detail. If you look closely, it looks like a medieval Smurf is standing in the gutter. Awesome.
In the past I have visited exhibitions here and enjoyed a celebratory dinner. Soon the oldest gate of Kampen will be the location of an escape room. It's already on my to-do list!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Koornmarktspoort is a city gate a city wall of the Dutch city of Kampen. The wall is no longer there unfortunately.
This gate or poort in Dutch, is the oldest in Kampen. Parts of the gate was built in the 14th century.
The rear of the gate borders on the Koornmarkt, the front on the IJssel, where it is part of the famous Kamper IJsselfront.
Previously, the gate was plastered white, but has now been restored to its original state.
It has some beautiful statues scattered around the gate and a bus stop.
