Le Tambourin - Museumplein 6

Saw a rat this morning and told the staff. We took a picture but it wasn't very clear as the rat was hiding. The staff even said post it in fb. When we finish walking inside the museum the restaurant is full of people eating there.

I think a lot of the reviews for this place are quite old. It is clear since then that they have taken the criticism and used it to greatly improve! The atmosphere is amazing with bright open windows, relaxing music. It is not too echoey so you can hear who you are talking to. The cafe features a seating area and a square area for walking round and picking up food. The food is displayed very well, with fresh drinks (juices and smoothies all cold), beautiful salads, hot food, wraps, sandwiches. These are all freshly made and you can see the person making the food. There is also a wine fridge to pour a glass of wine and a coffee machine. There is fruit salads and smaller things to eat like fresh yogurt pots and croissants with jams, butter and honey. I chose the salad and was delightfully surprised at how fresh and yummy it was. It had capers, feta, flowers, spinach amongst other things. You could pour a selection of dressings on this. When I went to pay, at this point I didn't realise there were a selection of dressings and the cashier kindly informed me of this option (Which I gladly took!). She was very helpful. There is also fruit infused water which looked very good! At first I can understand why somebody would think this place is expensive, but I urge you to give the food a go. It is so, so good and I wasn't expecting it to be so good, especially at a museum! Definitely worth the price once you tuck in. I went to the espresso bar in the gift shop to get a fresh coffee however as I wanted a soy milk coffee. I was able to bring it back and drink it with the lovely view and my food. Fantastic!!

After seeing the museum my friend and I stopped in for coffee while we waited for our friends. The head chef came out and chatted with us for a while and gave us some complimentary snacks. Great experience.

This is a wonderful restaurant, a true treat in the museum! They have a wide selection of all kinds of dishes and the seating area is beautiful.

Nice place to take a health and flavour food. You can see the museum plain gardens when you eat. The staff is very kindly.

It’s your only choice when visiting the Van Gogh Museum, as you can’t leave and come back with a timed-ticket, so luckily the food is great. The relaxing atmosphere is a welcome reprieve from the madness of the very popular museum. The food is served cafeteria style, and all the food is labeled in English and Dutch, so it’s easy to find a tasty lunch or snack. On the very busy day I visited the museum, the restaurant was only ever 3/4 full during lunch time, so feel secure in planning to have lunch here during you’re visit without much issue.

Not your typical museum fare! Great food and wonderful atmosphere. Chef is personable and friendly; great service. After reluctantly heading over to the café for lunch, our group was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and the cozy ambiance. Chef went above and beyond to provide great service. It's clear that the Van Gogh Museum is focused on customer experience, as beauty permeates the entire space: from the breathtaking paintings on the walls to the well-crafted dishes at the restaurant. Well done!
