Posters and pictures of Bep van Klaveren and modern celebrities are a momentary distraction before you are whisked away onto a chair, where the professional cutting, wet and dry shaving and scalp massages (yes, really!) make you forget all about the bad, terrible world outside the truthfully thematically flimsy and old timey front door. I'm a regular, and would recommend all men to at least once in their lives to visit New York Barbershop. Call it a hipster hajj. It's worth every penny. And while you are there, pick up some pomade or beard balm. You'll thank me down the line.

Talented multinational staff of barbers using top quality hair care products. Often you'll be treated to a nice beverage during your stay. 1 point taken off for the over-priced service and inconsistent customer service from visit to visit.

The low rating is simply due to the disappointing haircut received, especially for the price paid. Being sat away a certain distance from the mirror, it's hard to tell the imperfections of the cut when you're there and have them corrected. Paid close to 50euro for a cut, and when I got home my girlfriend pointed out that my hairline at the back was not straight, nor were my sideburns at even lengths. Simply put, for 50euro it was a disappointing cut.
