Special how they sat there and had to make the best of it.

With so many people in hiding in such a space and always a threat. Continue to commemorate the 4th and 5th of May.

Indrukwekkend!!
Impressive!! Never knew this existed in the middle of the woods.

Nice to just walk over. With the story added, the place does appeal to the imagination.

In the Speulderbos near the hamlet of Drie in the municipality of Ermelo are the remains of a hiding place. This den was used by British pilots and fugitive compatriots during the Second World War between February 1943 and July 1944. The cave was discovered by the Germans in July 1944. At that time, 13 men lived there, but they were able to escape safely through the escape corridor. Colored poles have been installed to give an impression of the contours of the various parts of the hiding place.

Hidden in the forest, just off the path, you can find this historical hiding place, still half-buried in the ground. A sign will tell you something (in Dutch and English) about the history of this place. It was built during WW2 and inhabited by members of the resistance, until the Germans found the place and emptied their guns into it. All inhabitants safely made it out through a hidden exit. Very interesting to see the remains of this place!
