★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Al in 1945 werd het initiatief genomen om een oorlogsmonument in de gemeente Grootegastop te richten.[2] Beeldhouwer Rinus Meijermaakte een naturstenen, liggende leeuw. Het beeld is geplaatst op een gemetseld voetstuk. In de sokkel is in reliëf het wapen van Grootegast aangebracht, waarboven een steen is geplaatst met het opschrift:

IN MEMORIAM 1940 1945

Het monument staat op het plein tegenover de dorpskerk en werd in 1954 onthuld.
 Already in 1945 the initiative was taken to erect a war memorial in the municipality of Grootegastop. [2] Sculptor Rinus Meijerme- made a natural stone, lying lion. The statue is placed on a brick base. The base of Grootegast is embossed in the base, above which is placed a stone with the inscription:

IN MEMORIAM 1940 1945

The monument stands on the square opposite the village church and was unveiled in 1954.
