B	Bert de Boer on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It Damhûs is een leuk en leerzaam museum over de veenwinning, hoe dat vroeger ging en hoe het volop armoe was en de werknemers uitgebuit werden, kinderen moesten meehelpen met keren van de turf, dus school was er nietbij. Een leerzaam museum waarbij de historie goed wordt weergegeven door de huisjes met bedsteden, heel klein en primitief. Wij vonden het indrukwekkend. It Damhûs is a fun and educational museum about peat extraction, how it used to be and how poverty was widespread and workers were exploited, children had to help turn the peat, so school was not among them. An instructive museum where the history is well represented by the houses with box beds, very small and primitive. We thought it was impressive.

In dit knusse openlucht museum wordt dat wel duidelijk. Een aanrader! Maar ik had al een aangewakkerde interesse. Een jaar geleden heb ik het museum in Gorredijk bezocht dat o zo aardig de erbarmelijke omstandigheden van de veenarbeiders, het contrast met de rabiaat rijke upperclass in Beetsterzwaag en de arbeidersstrijd uit de geschiedenis opdiept. It Damshus brengt de museumfoto's van het leven van de veenfamilies tot leven. Een leuk dagtochtje op de fiets start dan ook met het bezoek aan het museum in Gorredijk, een doortocht door Beetsterzwaag om de landhuizen te bekijken en eindigt met een bezoek aan It Damshus in Nij Beets. En ja, als corona het toelaat zou je savonds een uitvoering in de Lawei in Drachten kunnen bezoeken. Want wat een lawei is weet je dan al wel. If you cycle through the beautiful landscape, you have no idea what happened on the peat one or two centuries ago. This becomes clear in this cozy open-air museum. Recommended! But I already had a sparked interest. A year ago I visited the museum in Gorredijk which, oh so nicely, explores the appalling conditions of the peat workers, the contrast with the rabidly rich upper class in Beetsterzwaag and the workers' struggles in history. It Damshus brings the museum photos of the life of the peat families to life. A nice day trip by bicycle starts with a visit to the museum in Gorredijk, a tour through Beetsterzwaag to view the country houses and ends with a visit to It Damshus in Nij Beets. And yes, if corona allows it, you could visit a performance in the Lawei in Drachten in the evening. Because you already know what a noise is.
