This is not a hotel, it is a retirement home. Absolutely nothing in this premises is worthy of the room rate charged. It is a stain on the good name associated with Relais & Châteaux.

Between gentle fields and hills: A highly atmospheric, dignified, mannered and beautiful place, with an outstanding cuisine. Utterly recommendable for everyone looking for relaxation in the countryside, apart from the urban pace.

When we arrived, there was no one to welcome us. We did not know how reach the restaurant (we usually get bit more care at R&C). Therefore we chose our table ourselves, and the waitress immediately asked us what we wanted to drink. However, she did not bring neither the menu or the wine list. How are we supposed to know what they offer? •We came with our shiba-inu (dog), which did not even get a plate of water. RC hotels are usually really animal friendly and caring for whatever type of guest. •We mentioned during our reservation that we were 3 vegetarian people. There was only 1 vegetarian option on the menu (ciabatta with tomato and mozzarella) and it’s no problem. We therefore asked if it was possible to get a 3 vegetarian salads, and fries. The waitress mentioned that they could make a vegetarian version of the César salad by replacing chicken by cucumber and tomatoes. Pretty surprising already to present it like this. •We got salads worth of a 1 or 2 stars hotel. The dressing was at the bottom of the plate and had absolutely no taste. It was vegetables roughly put together in a plate. Zero effort have been made neither on the ingredients, nor on the presentation. •After 20minutes that we got our insignificant plates, we asked for news of our fries. We asked an staff member who was walking next to us. He mumbled that he will check, and spoke for himself while he was on his way to the kitchen. He never came back to us to give us an update. •15min after the fries arrived (they obviously forgot them, but did not even apologize for the delay). The fries were of such low quality, it was even more surprising than the salad. They call it « pommes frites with homemade mayonnaise» on the menu but they look and taste like the poorest quality of fries from Sligro, Lidl, whatever: unbelievable for such a place. White on the inside, not properly roasted : almost not eatable. The mayonnaise was of very very light color and it was easy to notice that it was probably not fully homemade… •We politely mentioned our disappointment towards the experience to the waitress who served us from the beginning, and we really insisted on the fries, which was for us a really critical point (we only ate 1 and left the rest). She did not even react to our comment, which was pretty unprofessional. •The waitress then brought the credit card machine for me to pay. Once the payment was done, we reached the highest point of poor service : she DID NOT EVEN SAY THANK YOU or GOODBYE. It was really hallucinating for such a place. My fiancé said « Goodbye Madam » and still, she DID NOT EVEN ANSWER. Unbelievable. (We found out afterwards that she even counted the fries in the bill, very funny...!) •Indeed we asked to speak to the restaurant manager. He seemed pretty embarrassed and asked us to wait for some minutes in the lobby. He came back to us with a voucher for another lunch. •We refused the voucher, trying to make him understand that it was not a question of money. We expressed our loyalty to the R&C group, hoping he could understand that we were only sharing these details for them to improve their service and menu. For regular R&C clients, we were clearly astonished by the poor level of this place. A person who does not know R&C and has a first experience here will certainly never go to another hotel of the group.

We just concluded (July 2021) a week-long stay at Parkhotel de Wiemsel. Everything was of very high quality. The hotel is very clean and well looked after. The beds are very comfortable (although the pillows could have been a little firmer) the pools and the spa are heavenly. The atmosphere is relaxed and dignified. The breakfast buffet had a large variety of very fresh options and was high quality. Dinner in the restaurant is also a pleasure. Oostmarsum is a lovely little town and the center of town is walkable from the hotel especially on a pleasant day. On Sunday you could see that the hotel had less staff scheduled so service on Sunday was quite slow, but still more than adequate. We really LOVED the hotel and will gladly book it again in the future.

A beautiful find in the little town of Ootmarsum a town with so much character and galleries. The best hotel stay we had in the Netherlands. ParkHotel. The hotel restaurant is also highly recommended. Try the pigeon or the quail. Each was exquisite. Fantastic wine list too.

One of the best places you can stay in Europe if you are looking forward to relax with some luxury in the nature. You can have almost Michelen star quality food where the atmosphere doesn't have the Michelen star tightness. Staff is very friendly and helpfull.
