Ristorante Pizzeria Sorrento Leiden - Watersteeg 2

This used to be one of the few places in Leiden where you could have a Neapolitan pizza that was fine. Not as good as the ones in Naples, of course, but for Dutch standards acceptable. We've been coming to this place for a few years, and while there were a few instances in the past when the food wasn't up to par, we've stuck with them regardless. Until today. The pizzas were quite honestly terrible: the pizza base lacked salt and was cooked far too hard, with the pizza essentially having the consistency of a biscuit. Honestly, when holding a slice of proper pizza, it should be soft, not stay rigid as if it's made of wood. There was also relatively little sauce on the pizza and it was overall quite tasteless (we had a quattro stagioni and a margherita). Sadly, this was not an isolated incident. The last time we ate here, our order included a pizza caprese which wasn't actually a caprese (no cherry tomatoes were used), but when we said something about that we were met with a shrug. The other pizza wasn't stellar either. Today, however, when the waitress collected the plates and asked if we had enjoyed it, I said we hadn't and listed our complaints. "Well," she said, "you still ate everything." I responded that we ate only because we had been very hungry, but that the food had still been a disappointment. I got no further reply, so complained again to the girl we had to go to in order to pay. Again, no apologies or even a "Sorry, you didn't like it". I said I would forego the tip and that we wouldn't return, seeing as how disappointed we were, to which she replied: "Well, we don't need you to survive." Considering this was a Saturday night and the place was quite empty, I doubt that being so cavalier with your customers is a strategy that will pay off in the long run. As I said, we've come to this place many times, and for the most part the food and service were fine. But after the disappointing food tonight and the treatment by the staff, we will definitely not be returning to this place. Instead, we'll be going to the Very Italian Pizza here in Leiden whenever we want to have a Neapolitan-style pizza from now on.

Great antipasti, great pizza, great lasagna, great pasta. Did I mention the limoncello tiramisu? Amazing, just like the prices. Cannot fathom the one star review on "rude service" and hard pizza*. We came for a second time, back and forth from Leeuwarden, by train, totally worth it.

Nice ambiance, good food, kind personnel. Nothing to complain about.

It's our favorite pizza place when we're looking for something a little more fancy and authentic. Simple pizzas with delicious ingredients and good wine for a reasonable price! The staff are also very nice. All in all it's just a great experience eating out here.

Best pizza in Leiden! We've been coming here regularly for the past couple of years. Real Italian pizza and pizzaiolo!

Our kids call this "our pizza place" with good reason. We've had dinner and takeaway here many times the last years. Always yummy pizza and pasta without pretence or overpricing. Highly recommended!
