Stadscafé Van der Werff vormt de toegangspoort naar die oude binnenstad en is voor velen start- en eindpunt van een heerlijk dagje Leiden. Van der Werff is elke dag geopend van ’s ochtends vroeg tot ’s avonds laat. Het biedt een plaats aan gasten die toe zijn aan een kopje verse koffie, maar ook aan vrienden die willen lunchen of dineren. De chef-kok stelt ieder seizoen een nieuwe kaart samen, waarop eenvoudige maar culinaire gerechten staan die met aandacht worden bereid. Want in Van der Werff wordt niemand als een passant gezien. Iedere gast krijgt evenveel aandacht.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A bit too crowded and loud for my taste (not corona fear). I don't like shouting to be heard over the table. Not a very relaxing spot for me. The service is a bit aggressive as well (won't even let you have a look at the menu ?). Nicely located.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The service was quite slow, but the food was good. I got Indonesian Chicken Satay for lunch. It was great. Kinda more like fusion food tho but the peanut sauce tastes more or less like Indonesian one. The price was not so bad but not cheap either. Got peppermint candy after the food. Place was not so spacious.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Had a very yummy cup of cappuccino with a biscuit. Excellent location, though it took some time to be greeted after sitting at the table. They were very busy on the terrace, but we went inside. They did not check our QR codes though ? Overall, the coffee was so good, I decided 4 stars were earned.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We always like to come back to Van Der Werff not only because of the good food and service but there is something familiar about this place that makes you feel comfortable. One of my best starters there is the French onion soup and for the main if you like spare ribs try their asian fusion spare ribs that is served with delicious chips. When the weather is nice we always enjoy drinks in their outdoor area. Highly recommend this place for family/friends outing!
