Een echt familiebedrijf zoals je niet verwacht in een stad als Utrecht, maar een bekend adres onder vele generaties studenten en biljarters.
Café de Stichtse Taveerne, kortweg het Stichtse, bestaat al ruim 30 jaar. Niet in het roerige centrum, maar verborgen tussen woonhuizen en winkels in de Twijnstraat. De groene luifel aan de Twijnstraat is smal, maar de zaak loopt helemaal door tot aan de gracht. Hier kan men in de zomer zelfs terecht op een bescheiden terras, uitkijkend op langsvarende bootjes.
Het café is een echt spelletjes café. Naast goed onderhouden biljarttafels, pooltafels en dartbanen is er ook een kast vol spelletjes zoals Triviant, Poker, Backgammon, Carcassonne, Scrabble, Stratego, Risk en het Japanse spel GO. Ook spelen er 3 dartteams en is er op woensdag clubavond GO.
Daarnaast is het een gezellige bruine kroeg om lekker door te zakken. Een aanrader voor iedereen die een gezellige omgeving wenst.
Aan het roer staat Frank Nieuwenhuijs, die is opgegroeid in het café dat zijn ouders uitbouwden tot een volwaardig horecabedrijf.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Fun pub. Lots of space and multiple pool tables. It's also very well located in the hippest street of Utrecht, very near the Ledig Erf. For some reason people kept falling over during my only visit this year. Seems like drinking influences motor control. Go figure.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Good vibes, really lowkey and laidback. Alcohol for minors no big deal. Nice balcony with a good view on the Oude Gracht. They also have a nice collection of board games and a pooltable.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great place to come if you want to have a relaxed time in a typical old timey Dutch cafe. Come for some pool, biliard or darts, stay because of the laid back and relaxed atmosphere.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A good, and large, place. Pretty busy on a thursday night but there was room for our group of 12. Ppl play billiards here on, my guess, 7 tables.
I love a place like this.
The wine was not expensive, but also not good. Please, I gladly pay a euro more for a great tasting glass of wine.
And also please, make sure that íf you offer only one microbrew, that it is in stock, cause the beerlist is highly dissapointing.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Popped in for a couple beers and a few games of darts while visiting Utrecht. Really enjoyed the place, bartender was friendly. Crowd was a little older and quieter than I expected, but it was fairly early on a weekday evening, so it might liven up later in the night or on weekends. Lots of pool tables, dartboards, and board games to keep patrons busy.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I love this pub! It's very spacious so they were able to fit in 3 billiards and 2 pool tables and 2 dart boards. They also have lots of board games to play. The variety of beer is okay. The staff can be grumpy at times, nevertheless they provide good service.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A decent bar with Grolsch on tap. There are several pool and billiards tables, as well as darts and a fair amount of board games. There's outdoor seating at the back, though currently somewhat limited due to corona regulations. Staff are friendly and overall I'd say there's a pretty welcoming atmosphere and relaxed vibe. They also have some basic snacks, such as "bitterballen", which are priced a lot better than most places I've had them.
