About TexelZoo
TEXEL ZOO is voortgekomen uit Tuincentrum Eureka. Naast de potten en planten kreeg het tuincentrum aan de Schorrenweg nabij Oosterend, dat in 1994 werd gestart, steeds meer diersoorten. Niet voor de verkoop, maar als extra attractie en liefhebberij van de vorige eigenaar. Na de vogels, kwamen de vlinders en de roofvogels. Bezoekers waren zo enthousiast, dat de dierenafdeling steeds meer de overhand kreeg en de tuincentrumfunctie op de achtergrond raakte.
In 2016 namen Martijn Padberg (1982) en Marielle Blauw (1994) het bedrijf over. Beiden hadden ruime ervaring in de dierverzorging en een grote passie voor dieren.
Mariëlle werkte onder meer als dierverzorger bij natuurmuseum Ecomare en Martijn trainde al jaren roofvogels. Voor de bedrijfsovername werkten ze al samen in de dierverzorging bij Eureka.
Met de overname konden de oud-collega’s hun droom vormgeven. In de aanloop is hard gewerkt om alle dierverblijven te vergroten, meer biotopen aan te leggen en het aantal diersoorten verder uit te breiden. Ook in de komende jaren zal flink geïnvesteerd worden in verdere uitbreiding en verduurzaming. Het pand wordt al CO2-neutraal verwarmd.
Daarnaast is TEXELZOO aangesloten bij de Vereniging Dier en Park in Nederland en betrokken bij verschillende Europese fokprogramma’s voor de instandhouding van soorten en het vergroten van kennis.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful small zoo! Not many people visit this place, so no worries about large groups. All animals look healthy and are good cared for! The zookeeper fed the animals with a smile on his face. Worth your time and money! Be sure to buy the nectar at the entrance so you could feed the birds, they love it and will happily sit on your arm/shoulder or even head!?

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My girlfriend and I had a wonderful time. Not just for kids, if you like animals this is a nice little Zoo. The animals look healthy and taken care of. We really liked feeding the birds. The 2 little monkeys are so cool. I would say beware of the birds with kids because when you have the sweet nectar in your hand they will flock to you. Giving you a Alfred Hitchcock “birds” feeling. all in all make this a stop when visiting Texel you will have a nice time. They also have ample parking.
