β β β β β Nice bike ride from Almere to the green Cathedral. I am living in Almere for more that 25 years and never visited the green Cathedral. Its a nice piece of local history. With good weather its worth the trip.

β β β β β The Green Cathedral was planted with Poplars in 1987 by artist Marinus Boezem, in the shape and size of the Notre Dame in Reims. It is repeated as an open space in a beach forest immediately adjacent to the cathedral. It is quite an impressive piece of art, one of the manifestations of Land Art in the reclaimed land around the city of Almere.

β β β β β The actual attraction of the site, the cathedral, is amazing. Really dig the art of it as well as it's inverse companion.
The walking trail however is a bit desperate and ill maintained, I would not recommend the trail, but you should visit the site, pack lunch and enjoy the wide open space in the inverse cathedral or bring swim cloths and dip into the canal at the main site!

β β β β β This is a very special place, where trees are planted in a configuration corresponding to the supporting column placement of the cathedral in Reims, France. On the ground plane, tiles form the projection of the vault ribs that connect the column tops in the real cathedral.
