What an exceptional find! This home style bakery is operated by a Berber family. It offers exceptionally delicious sweet & savoury baked goods (try the Almahchi, a type of filled flatbread, similar to Murtabak in Malaysia/Singapore/Indonesia well as the various Broodjes, puff pastry turnovers with savoury fillings; the croissants were also very good), freshly squeezed orange juice, coffees, MIT teas etc. You can tell it attracts many neighbourhoid regulars (there's a roster of photos on the wall of the regular customers); we visited twice in two days during our trip and ended up having a nice conversation with one of the regulars who pointed out his photo on the wall & told us about the background of the owner. Strongly recommended!

Terrible croissants and horrible coffee. The Mediterranean named goods looked good though, I'll try those next time.

I have mixed feelings about this bakery. On the one hand they are open nice and early when no other bakery or breakfast place is, they are the only one near my apartment so it's convenient, the staff is super friendly and helpful, there is a wide selection, the espresso is good, they take cash or credit, you can sit in or take out. On the other hand I didn't find all the baked items to be baked same day or be authentic. In particular the pan au chocolate and chausson au pomme (chocolate croissant and apple turnover) were soft and spongy rather than flakey and buttery. The pitas were big and thick and somewhat dryer than expected. But given they are the only place open when I wake up, are so close, and they always smile when I come in to order in English, I have to recommend you take at least one visit to judge for yourself... Should you choose to venture further, the westermark bakery seemed more fresh, had long line, but less selection of pastries.

The old amsterdammer working class is still alive, committed and keeping the city authentically multicultural. The variety and quality of the products are amazing. You might need some time to decide what to eat, because everything looks delicious. No useless fancy decorations or design interior, no gentrified taste, no pretentious employees. The price are just, the owners are friendly, the people seat here to enjoy a meal, not to work on a MacBook pro or to have skype conferences. And since the tables are narrow, you might probably share yours with new guests. A jewel in the Amsterdam I love the most
