About Brasserie Meddens
De rijke historie van Meddens begint in 1830. De familie Meddens kwam uit Groningen. Het bedrijf was in die tijd gespecialiseerd in de fabricage van korsetten. Na een reis naar Parijs opende Bernard I. Meddens samen met zijn vader op 1 mei 1830 een ‘herenkledingmagazijn’ in de Hoogstraat in Rotterdam.
NouveautΓ©s uit Parijs vielen in de smaak bij het gegoede Nederlandse publiek. In 1899 opende Meddens de tweede zaak op een prachtig punt in de Haagse binnenstad, tussen Lange Poten en Spuistraat. Toen Jan Giesbers, een neef van de heren Meddens, aantrad in 1923 als directeur kwamen er filialen bij in Amsterdam, Arnhem, Leidschendam en Hilversum.
Meddens bewees haar veerkracht tijdens het bombardement van Rotterdam in 1940, door het verwoeste pand te verlaten en aan de Nieuwe Binnenweg in Rotterdam direct een noodpand te openen. Op 1 mei 1980 kreeg Meddens, na 150 jaar, het predikaat ‘Koninklijk’ en mocht het modehuis een eervolle kroon opnemen in haar logo.
