★ ★ ★ ★ ★ De vier gekroonden is een laatgotisch huis aan de Naaierstraat 6 te Gouda. De afbeelding in de gevel brengt niet alleen het werk van metselaars en steenhouwers in beeld, maar is ook een eerbewijs aan ‘de vier gekroonden’, vier martelaren uit de 4e eeuw, die in 306 weigerden een afgodsbeeld voor keizer Diocletianus te bouwen. Zij moesten deze weigering met de dood bekopen. In loden kisten werden zij in een rivier gedumpt. Vervolgens werden ze de patroonheiligen van de bouwvakkers. Hun afbeelding siert nog steeds dit oude pandje in de binnenstad van Gouda.
 The four crowned is a late Gothic house on the Naaierstraat 6 in Gouda. The image in the facade not only portrays the work of masons and stonemasons, but is also a tribute to "the four crowned", four martyrs from the 4th century, who in 306 refused to build an idol for Emperor Diocletian. They had to pay for this refusal with death. They were dumped in a river in lead boxes. They then became the patron saints of construction workers. Their image still adorns this old building in the center of Gouda.
