Aan weerskanten boven de poortboog ter hoogte van de kroon van de wal een stenen borstwering met rechte lijst, een opschrift op een hardstenen architraaf aan de landzijde met de tekst ’De eerste steen Aen Dese poort is gelegt door Pieter Benyamin De Beaufort den 20 augustus MDCCIV’ Deze poort heeft aan weerszijden een stenen borstwering met rechte lijst. Na het beleg van 1702 werd in 1704 de Bagijnepoort of Grauwe Poort vernieuwd en naar het ontwerp van de vestingbouwkundige Menno van Coehoorn de ravelijnen aangepast en nieuwe buitenwerken aangelegd om de toegang te bemoeilijken en werd aan de oostzijde van de stad deze poort gebouwd, Voor de poort lag een ravelijn, dat door houten bruggen met de stad verbonden was, Tot 1859 werden de stadspoorten 's avonds gesloten met houten deuren, In de jaren zestig is naast de poort de doorgang uitgebreid met een voetgangers- en fietserstunnel. Intussen is deze plaats mooi mee geïntegreerd in het groene landschap en blijft het zoals vroeger èèn van de toegangspoorten tot de stad. Not really that much to see but still an interesting historical recognition site. In the meantime, this place has been nicely integrated into the green landscape and remains, as before, one of the gateways to the city.
