Heute vor 107 Jahren (1912) Das Kloster wird zur offiziell zur Abtei erhoben. Heute vor 77 Jahren (1942) Das Kloster wird beschlagnahmt, die Mönche vertrieben, deutsche BDM-Mädchen untergebracht. Nach dem Krieg kehren die Mönche in das geplünderte Kloster zurück. Die monastische Lebensweise mit ihrer Konzentration auf Einkehr wurde v.a. in Abgeschiedenheit gelebt. Darum suchten Zisterzienser durch die Jahrhunderte v. a. nach abgelegenen Orten, um dort ihre Abteien zu bauen, oft öde Gebiete am Rand der bewohnten Welt. Die Mönche machten auch diese sumpfige Gegend hier urbar und lebten von der Landwirtschaft. Wer möchte, kann sich als Gast einquartieren: es gibt 7 Zimmer mit kaltem Wasser; Duschen und Toiletten sind auf dem Gang. 2 der 3 Mahlzeiten finden in Stille statt, bei fleischlosem Essen. Arbeit ist ein wichtiger Teil monastischer Tagesordnung. Die Tradition der Zisterzienser kennt keine “Entspannung” im Sinne von Rekreation. Die Arbeit sorge für eine gesunde Balance von Seele & Körper. The Cistercian / Trappist monastery with the More common name Abbey Lilbosch exists since 1883. It now houses 14 monks. 107 years ago today (1912) The monastery is officially elevated to the abbey. Today 77 years ago (1942) The monastery is confiscated, the monks are expelled, German BDM girls are housed. After the war, the monks return to the looted monastery. The monastic way of life with its concentration on Einkehr was v.a. lived in seclusion. That is why Cistercians searched through the centuries v. a. to remote places, to their abbeys to build, often barren areas on the edge of the inhabited world. The monks also made this swampy area here arable and lived on agriculture. If you want, you can stay as a guest: there are 7 rooms with cold water; Showers and toilets are in the hallway. 2 of the 3 meals take place in silence, with meatless food. Work is an important part of a monastic agenda. The tradition of the Cistercians knows no "relaxation" in the sense of recreation. The work ensures a healthy balance of soul and body.
B	Bert Huizing on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Strenge en sobere uitstraling, maar een bezoek meer dan waard. Abdijwinkel is interessant, ruime keuze uit Trappisten. Niet voordelig dat spreekt. Strict and sober look, but well worth a visit. Abbey shop is interesting, wide choice of Trappists. Not advantageous that speaks.
L	Lil M on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Ich wollte mir mal den Hofladen + das Schweinefleisch ansehen (tot + lebendig) Das Fleisch ist sensationell gut, insbesondere der geräucherte Schinken. Die Abtei ist riesengross und sehr gepflegt. Hier kann man sicherlich gut spazieren gehen. Ich werde bestimmt nochmals hier Schweinefleisch kaufen. I wanted to take a look at the farm shop + the pork (dead + alive) The meat is sensationally good, especially the smoked ham. The abbey is huge and well maintained. Here you can certainly go for a walk. I'll definitely buy pork again here.

Met veel bevlogenheid het verhaal verteld over de monniken en over de geschiedenis en het ontstaan van de abdij. Midden Limburg op zijn top. Een echte aanrader om het eens te bezoeken en rond geleid te worden . De varkentjes zijn ook zo leuk en een belangrijke inkomstenbron voor de abdij. Very interesting tour provided by Piet from the tourist office. With great enthusiasm told the story about the monks and about the history and origins of the abbey. Central Limburg at its peak. Highly recommended to visit it sometime and to be guided around. The pigs are also so nice and an important source of income for the abbey.
