The name comes from a sign that once hung on the corner house at the Brouwergracht; a paper dealer who had his trade there had a sign with "De Papiermolen" on it, the bridge was named after it. The bridge has also been known under the name Oliekoekensluis, where the oil and pancake bakers once had their stalls. This spot is a favourite for photographers of Amsterdam
