β β β β β The food that we ordered was wonderful. The prices were not that expensive neither. Would go there again if I carve some good curry :)

β β β β β Delicious food, friendly service and great location in the city centre! We loved this hidden treasure ? Definitely would recommend even though it's on the pricier side.

β β β β β I just flew into Amsterdam yesterday. After not having a particularly good day (two hour delay, lost bag), I was just getting out of Nieuwmarkt station when I came across the Phu Thai restaurant. I got in to get a take away Pad Thai, but decided to have it at a table when I experienced the βfamilyβ vibe of the place. Amazing Pad Thai, extremely polite staff. Definitely recommended if you love Thai food and youβre in Amsterdam.

β β β β β Hands down the best Thai I have had in the Netherlands. Itβs a very basic looking place with a few tables and an open kitchen. I am guessing most of their business is takeaway.
The menu is extensive and they do not deliver. The food here is fantastic and they have a great choice for vegetarians as well. Loved the vegetarian mussaman, the papaya salad was spicy and tangy, green curry was packed with flavour and the red curry was also very tasty. The fish cakes here are really amazing and I loved it.
Happily come here any day and would come back in a heart beat for fabulous Thai food. This is unaltered punchy, tangy and flavorful Thai food and something that is not so easy to find in Europe.

β β β β β Just steps away from Nieuwmarkt, Phu Thai, in Koningsstraat, is a Thai eatery specialising in "street food". In Thailand, the locals tend to prefer street food over restaurant fare, because it's usually more adventurous, aromatic, authentic and spicier.
This small restaurant is spotlessly clean and has unassuming, almost spartan surroundings, accentuating the pictures on the walls and the cabinet with Buddhas and other ornaments.
On entering, there is a wonderful smell of aromas emerging from the semi open plan kitchen which has the effect of making one ravenous. There's a steady stream of customers split between those ordering take-away and those wanting a table, attesting to the place's popularity. It's a favourite haunt of the many students living and studying in the neighbourhood. Clientele is predominately young.
It's wise to err on the side of caution. Dishes here tend to be much spicier than those normally accustomed to in a Thai restaurant. To the uninitiated, some can seem like flames from hell. If unsure, just ask for a mild version of whatever you are ordering.
There's a nice selection of soups and starters, of which Tom Yam Koeng, spicy shrimp soup with lemon, fish cakes and satay are highly recommended. Main dishes are for the most part curries, rice and noodle based dishes, prepared with choice of beef, chicken, pork, prawns and squid; Or without, if you're vegetarian.
Specials from the house include a good number of fish dishes, Mooi Krop - crispy pork, plus delicious chicken, pork, prawn and seafood salads. Desserts are seasonal. The main one is sticky rice with mango.
Tea, coffee and soft drinks are served, along with Heineken and Thai beer. Prices are reasonable and the service is impeccable. Staff are super friendly and attentive.
Perfect to combine with a visit to one of the many bars and cafes dotted around the festive Nieuwmarkt square, home of the magnificent Waag, the old weighing house, the oldest non-religious building existing in Amsterdam.
