Gezien de omvang gaat men er nu van uit dat er een bijgebouw gestaan heeft zoals een graanspieker. Historici vermoeden dat de havezate pas in de 16e eeuw ten zuidoosten van deze plek is gebouwd. Olidam wordt voor het eerst genoemd in een lijst van leenmannen van Roelof van Bevervoorde uit circa 1320. Berent van Hovele heeft het hues ten Olidamme dan in leen. In de lijst van de leenmannen van de bisschop van Utrecht uit 1379/1382 worden zowel Gerrit van Bevervoorde als Roelof van Hoevel als leenmannen genoemd. Vermoedelijk worden beiden genoemd omdat Van Bevervoorde het in leen hield en Van Hoevel in achterleen. In het Twentse verpondingsregister van 1601 staat het erf aangegeven als Esken ten Poele, het was toen in het bezit van de families Splinter en Achtevelt. Later wordt het erf aangeduid met Poolboer en de beek die langs de boerderij stroomde Poolbeek. In 1637 en 1648 kocht Johan Ripperda tot Weldam Oliedam in delen op en voegde het bij zijn landgoed Weldam waartoe het sindsdien behoort. It was long thought that this was the place where Oliedam once stood. Given its size, it is now assumed that there was an outbuilding such as a grain peak. Historians suspect that the manor was not built southeast of this place until the 16th century. Olidam is mentioned for the first time in a list of feudal men by Roelof van Bevervoorde from about 1320. Berent van Hovele then borrows the hues at Olidamme. In the list of the vassals of the bishop of Utrecht from 1379/1382, both Gerrit van Bevervoorde and Roelof van Hoevel are mentioned as vassals. Presumably both are mentioned because Van Bevervoorde kept it on loan and Van Hoevel on loan. In the twentse regondingsregister of 1601 the yard is indicated as Esken ten Poele, it was then owned by the Splinter and Achtevelt families. Later the yard is referred to as Poolboer and the stream that flowed past the Poolbeek farm. In 1637 and 1648 Johan Ripperda bought up Weldam Oliedam in parts and added it to his estate Weldam to which it has belonged ever since.
