★ ★ ★ ★ ★ In 1971, the Buzhu family opened their butchers business on the Haarlemmerdijk on the outskirts of the city's Jordaan area, and, in the process, became the first Moroccan butcher shop in Amsterdam, attracting customers from far and near for their superb selection of Halal meat.
Haarlemmerdijk has undergone a total metamorphosis resulting in its nomination as the nicest shopping street in the Netherlands. Slagerij Buzhu is as popular as ever and is one of the street's nicest shops. No longer just a butchers, the shop resembles a souk. Here you will find a wonderful selection of ingredients such as fresh herbs and spices, vegetables and fruit ranging from courgettes to pomegranates, fiery Harissa North African hot chilli pepper paste, cheese, olives, ceramic tajin pots, nuts, teas, hummus, falafel, olive oil and various types of couscous for creating the dish which, according to North Africans, is so delicious they had to name it twice.
The meat counter has a nice variety of beef, calf and lamb, as well as their renowned home-made merguez sausages. The owner is one of the nicest people you could hope to meet. He is justifiably proud of his produce and is more than happy to share recipes and offer advice. Definitely worth a visit when you are in the area.

Also a lot of nice variety of farmers market products. Very recommended.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Farmer’s market bounty any day of the week! (Actually not sure of exact opening days/hours). Lovely place with a huge variety of pantry items as well as quality meats and lush veggies- without the plastic! Couldn’t recommend this place more highly- since discovering it by accident, it’s now an at-least weekly destination. The staff are very friendly as well. :)
