★ ★ ★ ★ ★ De restauratie van de Cuneratoren in Rhenen kan binnenkort beginnen. Eind mei is het contract met de aannemer getekend, zodat er na vele jaren van voorbereiding binnenkort wordt gestart met de restauratie.
De toren, een rijksmonument in bezit van de gemeente Rhenen, werd in oktober 2013 in de steigers gezet nadat er losgeraakte stenen naar beneden vielen. Restauratie is volgens de gemeente noodzakelijk. „Veel natuurstenen onderdelen verkeren in een matige tot slechte staat. We moeten natuursteen, voegwerk en lood vervangen.”
Het benodigde geld is intussen binnen. Voor de restauratie van driekwart van de toren stelde de gemeenteraad vorig jaar 4,5 miljoen euro beschikbaar. De provincie Utrecht verstrekt 650.000 euro subsidie. De restauratie zal naar verwachting twee jaar duren.
