in itself a nice statue, but ... I have always wondered, why is there the statue of all of them2 in Dordt, and in The Hague, only the statue of Johan .... It should really be the other way around? ? Surely they have never all lived in Dordt ??

When you stand there in old Dordrecht, you involuntarily think back to the time when the brothers were still alive, those were also turbulent times, although not corona, but many other diseases.

Opposite the famous statue you can enjoy a delicious cup of coffee or something else in cafΓ© Centerville if you wish, while also enjoying the statue

β β β β β Johan and Cornelis de Witt were 2 powerful brothers from the Dutch Golden age of the 17th century. Cornelis was the mayor of Dordrecht. Dordrecht was one of the most important cities that contained the Dutch fleet and Johan was the statesman of the Republic of Holland.
Johan was a free market, libertarian who believed in small government and more power to local authorities and helping the merchant guilds.
Unfortunately, Johan mismanaged a war and was disliked by the royal named Willem van Oranje. This led to the accusation of an attempted murder of the Willem that led to Johan's imprisonment in The Hague in the 'Gevangenpoort' and eventual death at buitenhof. Most famously know for its people cannibalising Johan's liver out of spite.
This led to the Mother begging for Cornelis de Witt his life but he was assassinated by a lynch mob.
This gave rise to the first king of Orange and turned the Dutch Republic into a Monarchy.
