Fons de Visscher was a respected fishmonger for 27 years in Helmond, a small city in the Netherlands, when he decided to start a new adventure. Driven by his passion for fish and great wines, Fons created The Seafood Bar. The first restaurant opened its doors in 2012 and we've been living our dream ever since.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ For seafood lovers this is definitely one of the best restaurants in Amsterdam. The food is absolutely great, and I they have a huge variety of cold and hot dishes. The place is really trendy, and the service very organized and careful to the customer needs. Prices are absolutely reasonable considering the overall quality of the restaurant. Totally recommended!

I enjoyed the grilled octopus and the plateau salad.
Regardless of my 5-star review, I advise ordering in stages because they have a tendency to bring everything at once: hot and cold food together.
Also, I felt that the crab salad in the plateau was junky and tasted mostly of mayonnaise—such a shame.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The restaurant was in a nice location so I decided to stop by after a visit to the Rijksmuseum. I was quickly seated and looked through the menu. I wanted some fresh seafood so I ordered the Fruits de Mer (assorted cold seafood platter). At first, I was excited because the presentation was really nice. I will say, on that platter, the only thing I enjoyed was the oysters. Most, if not all of the shellfish had a lot of sand in them - especially bad were the razor clams. They were legitamately FULL of sand. And the crab, on closer look, looked like it hadn't even been cleaned - there was still so much grime on it I could pick it off with a fork. The sauces and seasoning were fine, but honestly I can't leave a good rating when the food cleanliness standards don't hit a certain mark. Maybe it was just an off day for them? Not sure I would come back.

One of the only places in town you can get king crab, and their seafood platters are out of this world. Hands down the best seafood restaurant in Amsterdam ?

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ First time visit. Gorgeous place, excellent food and the staff is amazing!! Very friendly and welcoming. The mixed grill platter was insane!! And the garlic shrimp… so scrumptious 10/10 recommend. Will definitely return. Also, check out the Rioja Blanco La Mateo. Delicious wine that pairs so well with any fish dish. ?
