Van der Valk Hotel Maastricht - Nijverheidsweg 35

The staff tries hard to answer to all your your needs, they also prepared for us a nice vegan breakfast :-D The suite we were in was just incredible, with a 15m diameter round jacuzzi just 2m away from the bed, and the whole design extremely nice for the eyes. Sockets are close to each side of the (round too) bed, one of them also has a USB connector on it for charging. Only shade is a sort of miscommunication where I booked massage for my stay, they asked after a while if I still wanted it via mail but that message got for some reason lost (they sent like tens of mails almost). But instead of checking again they just let all the massage spots be booked and when we arrived our dream massage session was gone. I was looking forward to it. But no way of having our massage. To me it should be the contrary, if I miss a mail my booking stays as it is! Then my responsibility if I wanted to cancel it and didn't inform!!! This momentarily ruined the weekend I planned as birthday present for my man.. that is a shame because the hotel itself was top. So one star less..

Quality wise Id give them a 5, but the price brings it down to 4. A similar hotel in Rotterdam would be much cheaper, which makes it difficult to defend the price of this hotel. Other than that I'm really impressed by this hotel, the lobby, restaurant and pool all have an all-inclusive resort feel to them, I think theres even a rooftop football court.

Great rooms and service. Downside the pool is super cold, if you are traveling with kids... We booked the hotel so I can swim with my baby and sadly was super cold for him and us. :(

A well situated Hotel, 25 minutes walk to the centre of Maastrich, all of the staff were polite ,attent well dressed and very helpful. Evening dinner was very good, but had to wait for the bill.

Very bad experience. Hotel is great overall, however I requested a late check out and they agreed. However I asked again the morning I was checking out if I could leave later and they said we could leave at 1330. The reception stated that they said 1230 instead, and because we we checked out at 1330, they charged us an extra 20 EUROS even though they told us we could check out later. I will not return here.

This is a good hotel, there was a little problem in our room and they solved it quickly and gave us a voucher stright away. The room is big, clean and staff kind. I noticed that the gym can improve the cleaning. When we went there, some kids were playing with the machines, some were broken, a bit dirty and there were bottles around from other people. I think that part can be better, and I would suggest to put a sign at the door maybe indicating that it is not a playground, or close it to make it work with the room key. Nothing against kids, but they shouldn't be playing with those machines (as well...they can have an accident and it can be a big problem). For the rest, again...the hotel was good.

Beware of 'minor inconveniences' such as overpowering smell of sewage in the room. I have tried to resolve this privately with the management of the hotel who have been rude and dismissive and have detailed the problems as a minor inconvenience. When we checked in all was fine, but upon returning to the room at 1am (where we passed by the front desk and noticed nobody was there), there was a strong smell of sewage coming from the bathroom. As we were exhausted from our trip we decided to try and sleep through it by ensuring the bathroom door was shut, but as the night went on it was impossible to sleep as the smell became worse and worse. I eventually had to open the window around 4am and it was around -5 Celsius outside, so I did my best to try and sleep fully clothed, freezing cold, and nauseated from the smell. In the morning the smell became so bad we could not even enter the bathroom without gagging, so after almost no sleep, we also could not shower or brush our teeth and left feeling disgusted. I reported this to the front desk on check out, who offered us a free coffee - not good enough as we were desperate to get home. We cancelled out plans with friends that day and went straight back to our home, so trip completely ruined. I then emailed the next day to resolve this matter. I also explained that as I have a chronic illness which was sadly sparked by this terrible lack of sleep that I was left unwell for two days after. I was met with a total disregard and lack of sympathy from the manager at the hotel who deemed this a 'minor inconvenience' and offered me 25 euros off my next visit to a Van der Valk - as if I would ever ever go back and spend another 200 euros just to get 25 euros off. I've used Van der Valk hotels for years for my trips around the Netherlands. Never again. I've tried to report the incident and the manager to HQ but am told all Van der Valk hotels all act separately. Not good enough for a brand that has so many hotels acting under its name.

Mostly fantastic experience. Hot tub in the suite was fantastic... recommended to bring a bubble bar from Lush or similar for the full effect! Breakfast was plentiful and tasty with a mixture of hot and cold foods. Only downside was that the room toilet got stuck on flush at 1 am, however reception immediately sent someone to fix it.
