"Blowing in the wind .." Yes, how many songs have the sea and the sea written or was the reason for it? Nice monument with a view of the North Sea.

Many islander men were, and still are, active in the deep sea trade, as whalers, fishermen or as volunteers with the rescue company.
Unfortunately, many islanders have died at sea during storms and wars. Sometimes the bodies were recovered, often they were never seen again. Women and children were left alone on the island..
After years of discussion, in 1993, with a gift from former captain Gerrit Luidenga and contributions from many islanders, a monument was erected for all islanders who died at sea. The monument became an image of a woman gazing lonely over the sea, waiting in vain for her husband or son.
