About A Beautiful Mess

Something different! Decent dinner opportunity in a repurposed former prison laundry. Highly industrial environment. Mediterranean/Arabic/Dutch fusion cooking, quite tasty! Very much enjoyed the set tasting menu. Good house wine. Very cost effective as well. Free parking on site.

Seemingly non profit organization housed in an old industrial building, somewhat hard to reach but free parking compensates. The servers were very friendly careful and clearly cared about the experience we were having. However they were not fast or efficient. Food was very good, large portions as well. We had the shared tasting platter. The whole experience was very very cheap, imagine the lights are kept on by governmental grants.

Great vibe, good music and very friendly staff. The 'beach' is nicely decorated and cozy. Delicious cocktails with a Middle Eastern twist! The food is also really tasty, I would highly recommend the smoky Moutabal!

A very nice colorful location in a part from the old prison. The food is very tasty and the atomsphere very relaxed.

We went to the restaurant with friends- open to whatever the evening brought us. I love that it is situated in the former Bijlmer prison and there are still reminders of those days throughout- The atmosphere was lovely- each person there has a beautiful story and past- learning & sharing their cultures whole working towards a beautiful future for themselves. The food was delicious- freshly prepared - a culinary journey to various countries - with the beautiful people who worked within the facility. It was more than a dinner experience- it was a reminder of the common thread of humanity, how we can all thrive when encouraged and given a chance. We will definitely be back again and again and again. Thank you ALL for the gift of this special place. From the website- β€œBeginnings are always messy. Relationships don’t come easy. Outcomes are uncertain. Life is not perfect. Things are normal today. Abnormal and unfamiliar tomorrow. We celebrate the beauty in the mess. The imperfections, broken parts and uncertainties. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and we choose to see the beauty in humanity. Wherever they came from and whatever path they had to take. A safe space where we speed up integration for people with a refugee background and celebrate diversity.”

I happened to stumble on this restaurant when looking for something to eat after 21:00. This kitchen was open until ten. Don't let the dark unlit parking lot, the desolate old prison area and am the construction work fences deter you. Once you walk through the dark the tunnel entrance you end up at a beach club in the old prison yard. You have reached your destination ? Anyway, the concept with refugees is cool. The food is good. The ambience feels relax and the prices are good as well. Unique place in Amsterdam that will no doubtlessly change a lot in there coming years with the white new neighbourhood being constructed there.
