Chez Favié is located in idyllic surroundings in a secluded section of Amsterdam's Bos, a huge man made forest three times the size of New York's Central Park, making it one of the largest city parks in Europe. Work on the forest started in the 1930's when unemployment was rife in the Netherlands and its forestation provided work for more than 20,000 unemployed inhabitants of the city. This delightful coffee house pavilion is a favourite starting and finishing point for those wanting to escape the city for a day out in this unique and impressive forest. Depending on the route taken, it is between 8 and 10 kilometres cycling distance from the city centre and a couple of kilometres more if coming by car. The pavilion has a large outside terrace surrounded by glass screens making it a perfect spot to come throughout the year for a cup of coffee, glass of beer, or drink of choice. The menu features a good selection of hot and cold sandwiches, homemade soups, fried snacks and the typically Dutch "Uitsmijter", consisting of two slices of bread topped with ham, cheese or bacon and finished off with two fried eggs. All this can be rounded off with chocolate cream truffels, or cake and apple pie with an optional topping of cream, all at very reasonable prices. Inside Chez Favié, there is a cosy bar and seating area with friendly staff to assist. The pavilion can also be rented for private parties and receptions. It is a nice place to come to for anyone wanting to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city and indulge in the benefits of nature.

The staff was heavily coughing and after coughing to their hand, they touched our food (like ice cream). No washing of hands after coughing, no gloves. This is not normal and not social behavior in times of global pandemic.

We wanted to sit here but unfortunately we didn't have cash. The closest one was in Amstelveen center where we didn't bother to go. The menu seemed nice with low prices. Of course that's more a children dog friendly cafe nothing more.

Unfriendly service and doesn't accept credit cards. The food is not great and the lady at the bar isn't very helpful, we asked them what food they could offer us and told us that they have a large menu of sandwiches...everything in Dutch and not willing to help with the translations. We ordered a toastie and it wasn't great either.

Very unfriendly staff. They refused to give us an extra fork and made fun of the couple next to us because they couldn't speak dutch. The toilet is charged 1 euro and the food is very mediocre.
