It is a pity that so little of Sittard's defenses remains. Still 4/5th part of the city center walled

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Fort aan de stadswallen, onder de grond. Hier was vroeger een goede uitkijk over de open vlakte van de stadsring. Er loopt een ondergrondse tunnel vanuit de binnenstad naar toe. Vroeger was hier ook een Joods kerkhof maar inmiddels verplaatst. Te bezichtigen met een stadsgids. ?
Fortress on the ramparts, underground. There used to be a good view of the open area of the city ring. An underground tunnel runs from the city center. There used to be a Jewish cemetery here, but it has now been moved. Can be viewed with a city guide. ?

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Fort Sanderbout ligt aan de buitenkant van de stadswal van Sittard. Eigenlijk is het nu meer te bekijken vanaf het aangrenzende wandelpad en vanaf de wal. Als je geïnteresseerd bent in de geschiedenis, kun je beter een stadsrondleiding doen. Op zichzelfstaand biedt dit fort weinig beleving. Het gebied om fort Sanderbout bestaat voornamelijk uit volkstuinen voor inwoners van Sittard en omgeving. Als je in de binnenstad bent is het zeker de moeite waard om een fijn rondje te wandelen.
Fort Sanderbout is located on the outside of the city wall of Sittard. Actually, it can now be viewed more from the adjacent hiking trail and from the shore. If you are interested in the history, you better do a city tour. On its own, this fort offers little experience. The area around Fort Sanderbout mainly consists of allotments for residents of Sittard and the surrounding area. If you are in the city center, it is definitely worth a nice walk.
