About Medisch Centrum voor Dieren - MCD

Having a pet in medical distress is incredibly challenging emotionally, so we were very grateful for how patient and informative the team was here. Our 6 month old puppy was sent in for same day emergency endoscopy via our vet. While the staff at front desk were not very clear about what is happening and a bit rude, everyone else was WONDERFUL. The doctors and nurses who came to take him explained every step to us and what we can expect as possible outcomes. They came out again just after the endoscopy to share an update, and at the end had a typed paper with aftercare instructions. Even though it was a really difficult day, as soon as the vet came out I felt we were in the best hands possible and that helped a LOT. Would definitely recommend this location to anyone in a difficult medical situation with their pet. ADDITIONAL NOTE - I see some people complaining about the cost of these services. This is ridiculous, of course specialist emergency medical care is expensive! If your pet is here that means your animal has an extreme or abnormal problem. The prices are VERY clearly communicated to you in advance by your vet and also at MCD (including a range when it's not possible to know exact cost beforehand, such as in our case). It is your choice if you want to provide the best medical care for your animal, if you are worried about this you should make sure to have pet insurance in advance.

I have had several very bad experiences over serval years with MCD which I want to share in the hope that people can be spared time, money and energy. The first experience I had with MCD was an emergency situation I had with my greyhound. While I was away he jumped on the counter top and ate 10 of his heart pills (Cardisure). It was evening and I called to find out if they could see me right away, I was told they could but wanted to check with the vet to see if I needed to actually come in. 90 minutes later they called and confirmed my worst fear, it was a deadly dose and I needed to rush him in - yes they called 90 minutes after I called telling them it was urgent. When I arrived the receptionist first ignored me, then forgot that we had even spoken. When she finally realized that the vet told her it was urgent she took me to an exam room. After waiting another 20 minutes a vet finally appeared. I explained the situation and now more than 2 hours after having discovered the situation how desperate I was to get the medicine my dog needed to induce vomiting....AND I asked to make sure they used one that was safe for greyhounds as they are very sensitive to many medicines. The vet rolled her eyes and disappeared for another 10 minutes. She then appeared and gave my dog a shot that caused him to wobble and then he collapsed. It was terrifying. As I sat on the floor with him the vet shrugged her shoulders and said sometimes greyhounds have a bad reaction to the drug she had just given him (What??? even after asking she gave a med that wasn't safe). I'm lucky my dog was able to walk out of the clinic that night and survived. The second time I visited MCD it was with my female greyhound who had an open wound on the top part of her tail. It was deep and at a point she rubbed regularly. It was a Friday night and I didn't want to wait until Monday to get antibiotics for this deep wound. The vet on duty was very young and really didn't know what to do. She came in and out of the room several times. There was much back and forth about if antibiotics could be prescribed - when I finally gave up and asked that they just bandage her tail, no one in the clinic knew how to put on a tail bandage. That night I ended up paying 200 Euros for the privilege of teaching the vet how to properly bandage a tail. This was the last time I took my pets to their emergency clinic. My final personal experience with my animals at MCD was with their orthopedic specialist. I had heard good things about their specialists and I thought I would give them a chance. When I adopted a Spanish greyhound who had been hit by a car when she lived on the street and had an old break in her front leg, I visited their orthopedic surgeon. She conducted a physical exam and ordered X-rays. After this she concluded that this Galgo would never regain use of her leg and the best course of action was to perform a radical amputation (leg and shoulder). While I'm not afraid of amputation and certainly would do this if she were in pain and needed relief. But I knew she wasn't in paid and my gut said it's too soon to opt for such radical treatment. I'm glad I did because now a year later with the help of another vet my girl has regained 80% of the use of her leg and is very happy. All in all every time I've walked in the door of MCD I've walked out with a very bad taste in my mouth with a very unpleasant and unsatisfying experience.

Our dog Benji was diagnosed with hip and elbow displasia. His hips were OK but his elbow was quite bad and he needed to go through surgery. Even with Covid, the team at MCD took there time and made sure not only that Benji was comfortable but that we also felt heard. They did an amazing job with his surgery and now he is in recovery, and we are hoping the results are good, so far it all seems very positive. Thank you for the thoughtfulness.

Recently my 14 years old cat Kali has been diagnosed with brain cancer. I was obviously devastated since my cat and I have been together for so long. Luckily I met these amazing doctors that not even time of a week since the diagnosis have been able to plan the operation to remove the tumor and save my baby. Now Kali is jumping, running, wanting to play like a kitty again, like I haven't seen her for so long! Me and my family couldn't be happier to see this surprising outcome and we'll be forever grateful for this second chance of life our Kali has been given!!!

my dog was scanned for a blood nose. They couldn't make a proper diagnosis so we still don't know what happened to my dog and why he died. Everyday they were changing the diagnostic till after 3 days i had to put my dog on sleep. Invoice for 3 days more then 7000 Euro. The other dog couldn't help with the ear infection. The house doctor helped in the end. Stay away from this haus!

Thank you for your help. When my cat was really sick in the late evening, you are the only one out of 5 clinics who agreed to take him in to provide first aid, despite the lack of oxygen chambers. I'm very grateful to you.

During the weekend our cat Sushi was too sick to wait till Monday. When I called we could be seen the same evening. They did an echo and tried to draw blood.. since this did not work we had to back the next morning.. and to get painkillers and fluid drain a third time on Sunday. Everyone was very helpful, kind and trying to help us in the best possible way. Monday & Tuesday we did more exams and met with Bart Ruijter. Another super professional vet/internist, flexible, understanding and trying to find the best way forward for our cat. We even could bring biopsy material to the pathologist ourselves to have it examined faster.. Nothing but compliments and gratitude for the way we were treated, supported and looked after in this situation! Unfortunately there was nothing to be done for Sushi anymore so we had to euthanise her, but a BIG thank you for al you did and tried at MCD these past days! <3

They were very calm and professional when we had to bring in our sick dog for an emergency. Everyone we spoke with and that examined our dog were kind and helpful. Hopefully we do not need to go back but good to know there is an emergency spot that we can trust!
