★ ★ ★ ★ ★ There is an interesting contemporary statue of 19th-century Dutch writer Eduard Douwes Dekker (Multatuli) at Torensluis bridge crossing over the Singel River in Amsterdam.
This is the work of Dutch sculptor Hans Bayens and was erected in 1987 upon the 100th anniversary of the writer's death. Here you find a roughly shaped figure of an aged Multatuli including midsection in suit and the writers face which is aged. The statue stands at a forward angle upon a base with a large engraving of the writers name.
Have a quick look when passing through this area of central Amsterdam. Note that there are nice views of the Singel on both sides of Torensluis. This is worth making time for before or after viewing the Multatuli monument.
