Looking for a replacement for the recently closed Smoked Bar.B.Q. we were recommended Meatcave, so we decided to try it out. As it turns out the two restaurants are not quite comparable, with the only point in common being the high quality BBQ-smoked meats you can get there. The Meatcave, however, seems to target the up class meat-loving hipster, rather than the pure BBQ enthusiast - something that is immediately obvious from the style of decoration, and the large part of the establishment that has been dedicated to a lounge bar: this is a place where you come to spend time with friends. The personnel, though, although friendly and helpful, seemed rather less inclined to enthusiastically share their passion for BBQ-smoked meats with us than to calmly and quietly serve us from a position otherwise in the background. Another thing to know when visiting this place is the rather unusual composition of the meals. For, first and foremost, as the restaurant's name implies, they'll only serve meat (no fish or poultry here) - to the extend that there will be no side-dishes other than some minimal cheese, mushrooms or vegetable garnishes. Furthermore, there's no menu: it'll remain a surprise what you'll get served up to the point where you've got your plate in front of you, at which time you'll receive an explanation of what the course consists of. That, then, is the third thing to know about having dinner at Meatcave: though you don't get to choose from a menu, you get to pick the number of courses you'd like to have - which ranges from three to five, each consisting of a quality cut of meat (unless you decide to exchange the last of these for a dessert) - following an initial meaty hors-d'Ε“uvre. Thus, your meal will end up consisting of an amuse-gueule, starter, a main course, and up to three intermediate dishes, one of which can however be turned into a dessert. The quality of the food itself is very good, with no additional seasoning needed (in fact, you won't even find pepper and salt on your table), even if dishes seem to be targeted to, and described in terms of, exclusivity rather than being truly inspiring. This feeling of exclusivity is definitely intended, as it can be felt in every aspect of the restaurant, from the decoration and service right up to the eventual bill, which can easily end up being € 50.- for a three-course meal (smallest option) with three small cola-drinks and a tip. All the same, the place seems to be so full on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays that a reservation is needed to get in - thus only adding to the same feeling of exclusivity. In conclusion, then, we did have an excellent meal and great time at the Meatcave, however are probably not likely to return for its atmosphere or dishes, which, in our opinion, don't match price in terms of creativity. Though if you're a meat-connoisseur and value exclusivity, this might exactly be the place for you!

Really good surprise, start with 3 dishes, then decide if you want more, if you prefer meat, fish, veggies, they are very flexible. The meat dishes were really tasty and the dessert looked simple but was so yummy !

Super nice! They don't have a menu, but they will craft a cocktail based on your taste. So you just tell them what kind of taste you're up to and they'll make the best cocktail just for you! They taste amazing and they look amazing. If you're missing something, tell them and they'll ajust the cocktail until you'll have the best drink ever ?

As a Big Green Egg hobby cook I had been keen for a long time to visit MeatCave to taste the results of a professional. I used my birthday as the opportunity to visit MeatCave in The Hague. Joelle and her team did not disappoint: what an excellent experience! Our request during the reservation for a table as quiet as possible with respect to noise levels was well catered for; right in front of the kitchen so I could also closely monitor the chef juggling the 3 Big Green Eggs he was using. Excellent food: very well prepared and tender, this is how meat is supposed to taste. Additional value is delivered through the wine paring menu: very nice and surprising wines that match the food perfectly. All of this is delivered through very friendly and knowledgeable service. If you want to eat meat, MeatCave is the place to go.

Lovely restaurant, great wines, friendly staff, nice location. I liked the grilled food, it gave me inspiration to grill some new things in the bbq. We went for the 6 course diner, and my partner took the veggie and meat combi. Nicely paired wines with meat, the pairing with the veggie dishes can be a bit off. Bit pricey, especially when sea food is replaced by veggies, expected that it would be a little cheaper, but it wasn't. Staff could promote the wines a little more. All in all, nice dining experience.

Formerly known as 'Meatcave', Big Green Egg (BGE) restaurant van de Leur has changed its formula to cater to a broader audience. The chef's menu that ranges from 3 to 7 courses serves a variety of fish, seafood and meat dishes that have all been cooked on the BGE barbeque in some way or other. We had lightly smoked seabream ceviche, flanksteak, scallops, pork belly, gurnet, chicken thigh and a lovely dessert with homemade ice-cream and grilled watermelon. Some great drinks from cocktail bar Bricks (located in the same building) ensured a wonderful evening.
