★ ★ ★ ★ ★ In my hometown Amsterdam I am "surrounded" by Ron Gastrobars. Silly enough I have never been to one, because I can whenever I want I guess (and I will one day). My Mom lives in Laren, is Indo and had her birthday so we had a great lunch at Ron Gastrobar Indonesia in Laren. I would definitely recommend. The dishes are delicious!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Hubby ordered the rijsttafel menu for home takeaway. Overall quality pretty good food and I am originally from Singapore so I know how Indonesian food should taste like but was disappointed with 2 dishes. The gado gado was only cabbage with peanut sauce. Anyone who google gado gado knows what it contains. I could just buy from supermarket cabbage and pour peanut sauce on it. The other disappointing dish was the sayur lodeh. It was super diluted and bland. Pictures shown as proof.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It started when we booked a table. Waiting list … half an hour later we got our table. The night itaelf the restaurant was not even half full ?♂️
The restaurant is very narrow, but deep. Upstairs they have some more tables. This means people are walking past frequently. At a nice day a few people can sit outside, although the terrace is sub-optimal (busy street).
The restaurant staff was very friendly, although there is a clear distinction between smart staff (you can have a conversation with) and others (you cannot even makeup what they are saying).
We ordered the specialties of the house, as recommended by the waitress. The food was nice, but ‘no repeat’ for me. The dessert was a weird drink. I consumed (you cannot drink it, you cannot eat it, it comes in a glass with a fork that I see no use for and a spoon) it, bit my friend passed.
All in all, a disappointing experience. To keep it positive, I am happy to have had the experience…
