★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This monument stands in tribute to Simon van Leeuwen, a 17th century Dutch lawyer. He studied literature and law at the University of Leiden, before becoming a lawyer in The Hague and appointed to the Supreme Court of the Netherlands in 1681. His work was widely translated until the end of the 18th century and includes such works as Paratitula iuris novissimi, Notarius publicus, The Roman-Hollands-Regt and Method of litigation in civil and criminal cases, amongst others.
The sculpture depicts van van Leeuwen seated in formal outfit of a judge. He holds a rolled up parchment in his right hand which is resting on his right thigh. The sculpture is located just outside the Supreme Court of Netherlands on Korte Voorhout. Unless you're going there, I wouldn't go out of the way to see it.
